Job Title Payroll Services Supervisor Department Financial Services Office Position Summary

Gettysburg College is seeking a full-time Payroll Services Supervisor. This position is responsible for processing the College’s faculty, staff and student bi-weekly payrolls, including all reporting requirements in compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations. The Payroll Services Supervisor also prepares and submits new hire reports to the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the state of PA; reconciles and prepares deposits for federal, state, local and other tax withholdings and payments; verifies employee paperwork including W-4’s and various state withholding tax form; reconciles, prepares, and files quarterly and annual tax reporting (i.e. Form 941, W-2’s, and W-3); and assists the Human Resources Functional Analyst in performing testing and implementation of upgrades and patches for PeopleSoft HR/Payroll module. This position supervises one payroll assistant.


A high school education or equivalent with at least 5 years’ experience in a computerized payroll environment at a medium-size organization and demonstrated knowledge of regulatory requirements for payroll processing and payroll reporting is required. The successful candidate will have expertise of all federal, state, local, and foreign national tax regulations to ensure full and accurate tax compliance. It is preferred that experience includes working with ERP Databases and proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite including manipulation of spreadsheets and formulas. The following demonstrated abilities are required to successfully perform the duties of the positon: fine attention to detail and maintain a high level of accuracy and validation; apply guidelines and policies related to human resources and payroll; provide excellent customer service and effectively communicate verbally and in writing; maintain and handle confidential information in the appropriate manner; think and react appropriately to a variety of circumstances; exercise sound judgement; and successfully prioritize to meet process deadlines and handle a variety of tasks simultaneously. Must be able to work independently, as a team player, and have general knowledge of professional practices and procedures for working successfully in an office environment and responsive to office needs.
