DESCRIPTION

The Bioinformatics Programmer 4 will use skills as an advanced, specialized bioinformatics programming professional with an in-depth understanding of computational algorithms to identify and resolve a wide range of highly complex issues/software bugs where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.

The incumbent will: 1) Develop and apply advanced computational methods to complex high-dimensional data accumulated in population neuroscience initiatives, including the derivation and application of estimates of heritability and genetic prediction of specific phenotypes and adverse outcomes in human populations.2) Derive and apply advanced computational methods for assessing and imputing risk exposures in research participants using geocoded address information and large-scale public databases that map relevant risk variables.3) Design and apply novel approaches for combining estimates of genetic and environmental risk in population neuroscience.4) Evaluate, recommend, and implement new hardware and software technologies for advancing complex HPC, data science, CI projects.5) Train and mentor postdocs and graduate students on the application of highly complex multidimensional analysis in their research.6) Develop and submit research grant proposals.7) Author or co-author manuscripts for dissemination of research findings in peer-reviewed publications.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • In-depth knowledge of bioinformatics methods, applications programming, web development and data structures.

  • Proven knowledge of bioinformatics programming design, modification and implementation.

  • In-depth knowledge of modern biology and applicable field of research. Knowledge of epidemiology, population genetics, neuroimaging, neuroscience, and cognitive science methods.

  • Experience analyzing large and complex multi-modal data sets, including whole-genome genotyping, human brain imaging, geospatial datasets, and other high-dimensional phenotypic data.

  • Expertise and experience in working with multivariate longitudinal and survival data.

  • Expert background in applications in genetics and neurodevelopment.

  • Advanced understanding of relational databases, web interfaces and operating systems.

  • Strong knowledge of web, application and data security concepts and methods.

  • Advanced knowledge of the R statistical language, Python, Bash Scripting, and Matlab.

  • Advanced project management skills.

  • Ability to contribute independently and in a team environment to grant applications, manuscripts, and presentations. Experience in manuscript planning, preparation, and execution.

  • Solid interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner and work with both technical and non-technical personnel in the organization, including senior project leaders and managers.

  • Ability to lead a team, meet deadlines and strong problem solving skills. Must exhibit the ability to creatively solve difficult analysis problems while implementing principled inferential statistical procedures.
