As such, it ranks among the top centers in the nation conducting basic and clinical cancer research, providing advanced patient care and serving the community through outreach and education programs.

The Cancer Center's mission is to translate promising scientific discoveries into new and better options for the care of patients with cancer. The Center supports one of the broadest ranges of cancer activities in the nation – from fundamental and translational cancer research in molecular genetics and advanced molecular therapeutics, and from population studies of cancer incidence to community education about cancer prevention and risk reduction.

Serves as Research Administrator for a laboratory that specializes in the study of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and other hematological and solid tumor cancers, providing administrative and financial oversight for the CLL Research Consortium (CRC), an NCI-sponsored program project grant, a California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) Disease Team award, a Cancer Gene Therapy award, and numerous other research grants, investigator-initiated clinical trials, correlative science agreements and laboratory service agreements.

The Research Administrator works with the laboratory Principal Investigator (PI) and other laboratory personnel to ensure the timely preparation and submission of all extramural research support applications. The Research Administrator oversees the allocation of research funding to CRC-member institutions and coordinates regular communication among CRC investigators (monthly teleconferences & face-to-face meetings). The Research Administrator also serves as the key point of contact between the laboratory and the major extramural research sponsoring agencies, as well as other academic and industry partners.

The Research Administrator provides support to the laboratory’s philanthropic initiative – The Blood Cancer Research Fund – and works closely with the PI, laboratory scientists and the UC San Diego Technology Transfer office to ensure the timely filing of the laboratory’s intellectual property disclosures. The CLL Research Administrator reports directly to the CLL Laboratory PI and indirectly to the Moores Cancer Center Associate Director for Administration.
