Job Description:
The Department Head, Nurse Science has authority and responsibilitiescompatible with the general policies of OSU-Oklahoma City and the NursingDepartment. Included in these are:

  • The development and maintenance of cooperative relationships within the Health Sciences Division and Nurse Science Department, university administration and other departments within the university.
  • The development and maintenance of cooperative relationships with hospitals, appropriate official agencies and community groups.
  • The administration of the Nurse Science Department to ensure equitable sharing of duties and responsibilities; regularly scheduled committee and faculty meetings; and opportunities for collaboration at all levels.
  • Facilitation of the timely development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of the curriculum by the entire faculty.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate program outcomes.
  • Ensures Board of Nursing and Specialty Accreditation compliance.

Essential Job Duties:

    Prepare and administer the Nurse Science (NS) budget with input from the Division Head and faculty. Chair Faculty, Team Leader, and Advisory Committee Meetings. Serve as an ex officio member of all NS committees. Screen and recommend candidates for faculty appointment, retention, and promotion. Conduct regularly scheduled faculty meetings. Facilitate the faculty's assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the NS curriculum. Evaluate faculty and staff performance as determined by institutional policy. Facilitate professional development and synergy among faculty. Participate in continuing education and/or academic study. Strive to demonstrate NLN nurse educator competencies. Supervise NS support staff and work study students. Provide input and oversight for NS committees to develop policies for admission,progression, and graduation of students. Coordinate recruitment, admission, counseling and academic advisement of students. Facilitate graduate placement by providing employment information and recruitment opportunities. Conduct follow-up studies of graduates and compile appropriate data for improvement. Maintain the Nurse Science Department inventory. Provide clear, relevant information about the program to the public. Oversee Department marketing and materials. Participate in official department and OSU-OKC functions. Collaborative with other Department and Division Heads to encourage interprofessional collaboration. Prepare departmental reports for the university, official agencies and other groups. Ensure compliance with Board of Nursing and specialty accreditation standards. Prepare and submit contracts and/or agreements with various health agencies where clinical facilities are utilized. Foster professional, cooperative relationships with health care agencies. Facilitate the dissemination and use of data collected from surveys, student evaluations, employers, and others to improve Department functions. Seek alternative sources of funding and oversee grant projects as necessary. Coordinate and provide oversight of the OSU-OKC Nurse Science Program at OPSU. Serve as designee for the Division Head of Health Sciences. Completes all mandatory training and participated in a minimum of two professional development each year Other duties as assigned by the Division Head of Health Sciences.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years full-time equivalent practice as a registerednurse in a clinical setting preceding the first date of first employment as anursing faculty member.
  • One year teaching experience as a full-time nursing faculty member in anursing education program leading to licensure.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, computer literacy and competentadministrative ability.
  • Active membership and participation in nursing and other professionalorganizations.
  • Hold a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in the State ofOklahoma.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Doctorate from a regionally accredited institution.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities Required:

  • Communication skills – Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with clear, grammatically correct English and prepare complex reports on deadline; requires interaction with supervisors, colleagues, students, alumni, advisory committee members, and the public, using tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
  • Computer skills – Must be demonstrably proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as e-mail and Internet.
  • Passion for assistingcustomers and representing the OSU brand with positivity and professionalism
  • Evidences a history of demonstrating ethical and professional behavior.
