DescriptionThis is a 3-year limited appointment position. This is also a part-time position at 21 hours per week.

The Department of Health & Wellness is made up of Counseling and Mental Health, Health Services, and Health Promotion, as well as sexual assault prevention. The department contributes to the educational mission of the university through a variety of activities devoted to prevention, intervention, and consultation. Serving a diverse student body 8,000+ undergraduate and graduate students, H&W is committed to providing excellent care and prevention efforts in a safe and welcoming environment which is inclusive and culturally informed. We bring energy, expertise and a collaborative approach to the provision of health care and brief counseling and psychiatric services. In addition, we are active on campus doing training; outreach and liaison work on a number of key health and mental health issues important to a college population.

This position will help grow and develop our current student-facing substance free initiatives and to build relationships across campus to find a community and have an active healthy substance-free life within the university.


QualificationsBasic Requirements:
  • 1-3 years experience in workforce. Student Leadership experience may be considered.
  • BA and experience in a higher education institution addressing alcohol and drug abuse prevention initiatives.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required:
  • Knowledge of health promotion theory and evidence-informed practice, and ability to translate and apply that theory with a university population.
  • Sound understanding of undergraduate and graduate students, development issues, health needs and interests.
  • Ability to design health promotion initiatives that reflect social, cultural, political, and economic diversity of students.
  • Demonstrated success working collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
  • Evidence of the ability to provide leadership and problem-solving skills in health promotion, substance-free initiatives and recovery.
  • Excellent and effective interpersonal communication skills, including experience with public speaking/presenting and small group facilitation.
  • Experience developing and administering health promotion initiatives.
  • Dynamic and creative style that engages students to work with them collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of computer skills necessary to use appropriate electronic medical record modules, as required.
  • Good command of the English language, including medical terminology.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, flexibility to manage multiple tasks and the accurate attention to details.
  • Ability to work independently or within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve and function as a resource to other members of the team and resolve complex issues.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in higher education, public health, social work or related degree.
  • Certification in Mental Health First Aid, QPR suicide prevention, Green Dot bystander training, and/or Campus connect gatekeeper training.
  • Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH), or eligible and content to become certified.
  • Experience working in a college/university setting.
  • Experience leading peer educators.
  • Experience with personnel training, especially college-age students.
  • Experience developing student outreach workers or recovery ambassadors.
