South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks a highly qualified individual for the position of Dean for Allied Health. This position is responsible for all nursing and medical assisting program operations including fiscal, personnel, and student management as well as the planning, implementation, and evaluation of program outcomes and meeting accreditation meeting accreditation for nursing and medical assisting programs and state nursing commission standards for the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and Nursing Assistant programs.

The Dean for Allied Health will provide program leadership in support the college's mission, vision, core themes, and strategic plan, creating and maintaining an environment that is collegial and conducive to teaching, learning, professional growth, and collaboration.

This position will:

  • Provide program leadership to support the College's Mission, Vision, Core Themes and Strategic Plan
  • Create and maintain an environment that is collegial and conducive to teaching, learning, professional growth, and collaboration
  • Administer the program budgets to ensure adequate program resources, accurate accounting, and fiscal responsibility to College
  • Coordinate the staffing assignments and course schedules of the nursing and medical assisting program courses and supervise and evaluate the work of full-time and adjunct faculty teaching those courses and in accordance with the Faculty Negotiated Contract
  • Coordinate the hiring, supervise the work, and conduct annual evaluations of classified and part-time hourly staff reporting directly to the Dean for Allied Health
  • Maintain knowledge of Washington state and national standards for nursing and medical assisting education programs and provide leadership to ensure that the College has evidence that such standards are met
  • Coordinate the review and assessment of programs and student learning outcomes and participate in college-wide assessment activities
  • Coordinate all nursing and medical assisting program accreditation activities and write all required reports and self-studies
  • Coordinate faculty involvement in the process of developing and reviewing curriculum to ensure integrity, rigor, and currency as well as to satisfy the expectations of the College's Instructional Council and Washington state and national standards for nursing and medical assisting education programs
  • Promote faculty/staff input and communication as part of decision making processes including the administration of the program budget
  • Serve as chair or member of designated College committees, councils, and teams
  • Prepare written and oral reports related to activities and accomplishments in area of responsibility
  • Ensure that nursing and medical assisting program files and student records are maintained in accordance with College, state, and federal guidelines
  • Oversee processes for responding to and addressing nursing and medical assisting program-related complaints and grievances in accordance program policies and College grievance policies
  • Collaborate and work closely with the other deans and the Vice President for Instruction to support the coordination of divisional and college curriculum and resources
  • Collaborate and work closely with the Vice President for Instruction to engage in personnel recruitment activities, coordinate screening and hiring processes, and oversee processes for faculty development and performance review, all in accordance with College policies and state requirements for professional-technical teaching personnel
  • Collaborate and work closely with enrollment services to coordinate recruitment, advising, and admission processes for the nursing program
  • Collaborate and work closely with the Vice President for Instruction to ensure that public information regarding the nursing and medical assisting programs is accurate, clear, consistent, accessible, and coordinated with other healthcare programs
  • Collaborate and work closely with the nursing and medical assisting program advisory committees as well as other stakeholders to provide opportunities for communities of interest to have input into program processes and decision-making
  • Act as liaison between the nursing and medical assisting programs and acute care, long-term care, and other community health care providers and develop and maintain written agreements with cooperating agencies and clinical sites
  • Represent the nursing and medical assisting programs in local, regional, and state organizations and committees
  • Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Support the college's mission by creating a work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking
  • Contribute to the appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding
Qualifications You Possess

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) from an accredited college or university
  • An unencumbered Washington State RN license
  • Five years' work experience as a registered nurse including two years of experience in nursing education
  • Successful candidate must complete and maintain requirements for Professional Technical Program Administrator Certification per Washington Administrative Code 131-16-091 to 092
  • Demonstrated experience or participation with persons from diverse backgrounds such as sexual orientation, racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, socio-economic, physical and learning abilities, and a commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of best practices in teaching, assessment, and student engagement including experience with online learning, healthcare simulation, clinical supervision, and applied clinical assessment and evaluation in laboratory and clinical settings
  • Experience in curriculum development, systematic program evaluation, and use of data to enhance and improve teaching and learning, especially in the context of state and national standards for nursing education programs
  • Current knowledge of both nursing education at the associate degree level and the articulation between that and bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) programs
  • Experience in a leadership role in an ADN program
  • Demonstrated success in effectively managing and communicating the results of decision-making processes including leading committees
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and staff representing diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and abilities; and the ability to foster a climate in which such diversity is understood and valued
  • Experience in advising of students
  • Experience in the use of software applications such as Word, Outlook, and Excel or other computerized spreadsheet applications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
