Duties Performed in the Usual Course of the Job
Serves the Sam Houston State University Proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine (Candidate Status-Seeking Accreditation) in the Department of Primary Care. The University is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position for Internal Medicine Faculty. The position reports to the Chair of Primary Care. The proposed College of Osteopathic Medicine is currently in candidate status and is seeking accreditation from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. The university will focus on primary care and other specialties identified as a physician workforce shortage in the State of Texas, and has developed an integrated curriculum merging basic science instruction with clinical learning and an osteopathic emphasis. The Internal Medicine faculty will be expected to act as mentors, particularly for students wishing to practice General Internal Medicine. The Internal Medicine faculty members will assist the Chair of Primary Care in development of clinical content for systems courses, participate in scholarship and research in the department, provide quality patient care and foster collaboration and interdisciplinary learning. Members of the Department of Primary Care will be expected to participate in teaching in the systems courses, physical exam course, case-based learning sessions, preparation for clerkships, procedural skills training, OSCE’s and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Laboratory as appropriate. The members of the department will also participate in the SHSU practice plan. Individuals should be comfortable working in preclinical and clinical education, as well as evaluation of curriculum and students through various learning and assessment methods. The ideal candidate should have strong clinical acumen and passion for primary care. Please note this position will move to Conroe upon the completion of the Medical School facility.

Educational Requirements for the Position
The successful candidate will have a DO or MD degree from an accredited college of medicine with residency training leading to board certified in Internal Medicine, current AOA or ABMS board certification or eligibility, and eligibility for, or a current license to practice in Texas.

Experience Required for the Position
A background in medical education is preferred, as is experience in pre-clinical and clinical teaching, osteopathic manipulation skills and well-developed communication skills. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and training. Ability to communicate and work with faculty, medical students, clerkship coordinators, hospital administrators, physician preceptors and college administration. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrates personal initiative and abilities to deal with a rapidly changing environment. Familiar with Learning Management Systems and reporting. Other duties as assigned.
