The University of Virginia Arts & Sciences Department of Politics invites applicants for a one-year Open Rank Academic General Faculty Member (Tenure-Ineligible) appointment. The appointment begins with the fall term of 2019, with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2019. Candidates will be expected to teach courses in our graduate quantitative methodology sequence. The teaching schedule for the Fall 2019 semester would be one seminar in Maximum Likelihood Estimation and our math camp for first-year students. The teaching schedule for the Spring 2020 semester would be one seminar in Linear Models and one advanced elective of the selected candidate’s choosing. Teaching responsibilities would also include a non-credit course each semester consisting of regular consultation with graduate students on the quantitative component of course papers, qualifying papers for the minor in methodology, and MA and Ph.D. theses. The candidate would have the opportunity to participate in the College’s Quantitative Collaborative and its new Data Sciences Institute.
Applicants must have all requirements for their Ph.D completed in a relevant field by August 25, 2019. In addition, applicants must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and evidence of an explicit commitment to diversity and of advancing understanding and outcomes for underrepresented groups. The salary for entry-level candidates with limited experience is $53,000 plus benefits. Candidates for higher ranks will be given a salary commensurate with experience.
