SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director – Facility Operations & Aquatics is responsible for providing leadership to departmental personnel, with direct responsibility for overseeing student employment, membership services and the operations of a comprehensive state-of-the-art recreation center, equipment for the Morris Recreation Center with an emphasis on safety and security and aquatics program.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of The Morris Recreation Center Operations; Aquatics Program; Membership Services; Weight Room and Cardio Space; IT Services; and Liaison for the Center for IT Excellence.
  • Maintains the Recreation Management software system (Fusion) for Campus Recreation providing monthly reports to the Director. Serves as liaison for all software programs and services on behalf of Campus Recreation.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating and motivating all member services and operations student workers.
  • Directly supervises the student payroll (regular & contract labor) for MRC operations and members services in compliance with departmental and university regulations.
  • Assists with equipment maintenance through the preparation of preventative maintenance schedules and rotation plans.
  • Serves as a liaison for Campus Recreation and assists external and internal partners with the coordination and supervision of the preventative maintenance plan for all aquatics equipment associated with the Morris Recreation Center.
  • Assists with the development, implementation and supervision of a comprehensive risk management plan.
  • Develops, implements and manages their respective internal & external budgets.
  • Responsible for all recreation and instructional class equipment set-up and take down.
  • Provides monthly quantitative reports on Morris Recreation Center spaces and equipment usage.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of long-term and short-term goals for the department of Campus Recreation.
  • Assists with staff development plans and annual student worker appraisals.
  • Assists with all special events and/or programming within the Campus Recreation Department.
  • Assists with the development, implementation, evaluation and enforcement of all rules and regulations pertaining to recreational operations.
  • Attend national, regional and state professional workshops and conferences.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience (ex: high school diploma and four years of experience or Associates and two years of experience may substitute degree).
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: Six (6) years of combined related experience which can include full-time, part-time, and/or graduate assistant-ship in facility management and maintenance. Supervisory experience. Budgeting and risk management experience. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, leadership, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Must be able to work nights and weekends. 
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: Must possess or be ability to obtain current First Aid / CPR / AED certification.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Master’s degree in Recreation, Kinesiology, Sports Management or related field.  CPO certification.  Experience with pool management and pool chemical mixture.

SUPERVISION OF OTHERS:

Coordinator of Aquatics and Special Events, graduate assistant, and student workers.
