Amherst College invites applications for the English Department Post Baccalaureate Fellow position. The English Department Post Baccalaureate Fellow is a one year, full time, term position, job group and level RI-1. Amherst College has profoundly transformed its student body in terms of socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and nationality, among other areas. Today, nearly one-quarter of Amherst’s students are Pell Grant recipients; 45 percent of our students identify as domestic students of color. Over the course of the fellowship, the English Department Post Baccalaureate Fellow will work closely with the English Department Director of Studies to support a wide range of curricular and co-curricular English Department activities including the February Capstone Symposium. The Fellow will also be available as a digital humanities resource for English Department faculty developing digital humanities pedagogical and scholarly projects. In addition to collaborating on support for such ongoing projects, the Fellow will be expected to undertake an independent scholarly project in collaboration with appropriate mentors. This is a one year position, renewable for a second year.

Summary of Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Undergraduate Research - Assisting in running preparation sessions for Capstone Symposium, providing research and technical support for seniors in the Symposium, providing technical support for student digital humanities research projects
• Technical Support - Supporting digital and online needs of department faculty including updating the website and maintaining Google Sheets for majors
• Workshops and Events - Planning and coordinating department events including the Capstone Symposium and Symposium preparation sessions
• Administrative Support - Maintaining the Director of Studies calendar, developing and maintaining administrative rubrics for Director of Studies work, other administrative tasks
• Researching and writing for independent scholarly project

• Bachelor’s degree
• Strong technical, verbal and written communication, time-management and organizational skills
• Able to take initiative, and work independently and collaboratively
• Skills in public speaking, knowledge of presentation skills
• Demonstrative editorial skills and attention to detail
• Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel
• Familiar with Google drive programs (Google docs, Google forms)
• Familiar with Moodle platform and interface
• Comfortable with CMS use, including Wordpress and Tumblr
• Demonstrated leadership skills and experience
• Bachelor’s degree in English and event planning experience preferred
