Position Summary

Big Bend Community College invites applications for an Athletic Director. The Athletic Director is administratively responsible for intercollegiate athletic programs at BBCC. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, evaluating and supervising intercollegiate athletic programs and support services while communicating and coordinating effectively with all areas of the college and the community. The Athletic Director also coordinates and performs fundraising and community outreach activities.

This position works closely with a variety of individuals and departments in order to meet the needs of student athletes and the athletic program at BBCC. This position reports to the VP of Learning & Student Success.

BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students annually, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

Essential Job Duties

Primary essential responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Provide strategic vision and direction for athletics at BBCC, including the creation and publication of long-term and short-term plans and objectives.
  • Recruit, select, orient, supervise and evaluate coaching staff to ensure that each program is executed in compliance with state and federal regulations, BBCC policies and procedures, the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC), and other athletic conferences in which BBCC competes.
  • Supervise scheduling of all athletic contests and practices. This includes oversight for travel arrangements, coordination of officials, providing supervision at all home athletic events, assisting visiting teams, and coordinating event safety.
  • Send authorization of grant-in-aid and on campus athletic employment awards to the Financial Aid Office. Ensure that an annual report of grant-in-aid awarded to each athlete is submitted with the NWAC office.
  • Maintain the BBCC Athletics website to include content such as statistical data, stories, player profiles, photographs, and other athletic-related information.
  • Prepare statistical reports and provide to the NWAC and other entities.
  • Promote athletic teams and programs throughout the college and the community, through activities such as personal contacts, workshops, sports banquets, clinics, conferences and sports camps.
  • Coordinate marketing, team promotions, and public relations for the athletic department.
  • Develop and manage the annual plan and budget for intercollegiate athletics.
  • Lead in developing and implementing program fundraising and capital campaign plans, to supplement sports budgets and to fund athletic scholarships. Work with the booster club to reach fundraising goals.
  • Serve as a member of appointed college committees and as a representative to off-campus community groups, agencies, or individuals.
  • Instruct both students and coaches in the academic standards and procedures and the advising and academic support systems of the college; implement a process to require that all student athletes commit to a plan to support their academic success; maintain contact with the advisors assigned to each student athlete.
  • Act as primary liaison to the athletic booster club, and other relevant committees.
  • Serve as a college representative to the NWAC and other athletic conferences.
  • Work effectively with college administration to provide for compliance with state and federal policies, including Title IX.
  • Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences as well as support and promote an environment that appreciates and respects differences.

OTHER WORK RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Ensure no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes but is not limited to security and safety, understanding of safety data sheets (SDS), equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting, and body mechanics.
  • Ensure compliance with college policies and procedures and state and federal regulations.
  • Work and interact effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as may be required.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Five years of experience coaching intercollegiate athletics at the college level.
  • Experience working with students from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, ethnic backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience working as an assistant athletic director, teaching at the college level, and/or administrative experience at a college or university.
  • Experience with fundraising, outreach, or other promotional activities.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
