School/Center OverviewThe Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. DutiesA position is available for a motivated and detail-oriented team-player, looking for a position as a Research Specialist . The position is part of a newly established research group in the Center for Cellular Immunotherapies (CCI) known as the Translational Immunology Laboratory (TIL). The research in TIL is aimed at a) studying the tumor microenvironment in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and other malignancies using single cell genomic and proteomic technologies and b) understanding and improving the anti-tumor efficacy of adoptively transferred gene-modified T cells through correlative, mechanistic, and pre-clinical studies, and partly through functional genomics approaches. The main responsibilities of this position will be to maintain laboratory reagent and supply inventories, keeping laboratory records (i.e., regulatory and administrative documents) up-to-date; performance of experiments that entail cell culture, including bulk and single cell T cell and tumor cell lines and conjugation of antibodies with isotopes for use in mass cytometry experiments; basic molecular biology techniques, including the generation of lentiviral supernatants; flow cytometry, including analysis and electronic sorting; cytokine measurements; and animal experiments.
QualificationsBA Degree in science and 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in academic cellular immunology research or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Masters degree preferred. A broad knowledge base of immunology including the biology of human T cells is required. Demonstrated abilities to multi-task and exhibiting effective time management skills are required. Prior laboratory experience including mammalian tissue culture is required. Specialized training on utilizing multi-color flow cytometric instruments and data analysis using Flow Jo software are preferred. Hands-on experience with quantitative PCR platforms preferred Candidate must exhibit excellent computer skills, including expertise in Microsoft Office applications. Preference will be given to candidates who indicate a strong desire to build a career in the medical field. .
