Therefore, we hire individuals who constantly strive for excellence and support continuous quality efforts in all that they do via actions and POSITION SUMMARYThe Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) provides urgent and primary health care to Princeton undergraduate and graduate students and their eligible dependents. This includes obtaining a history, performing physical exams, ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic studies (including labs, x-ray studies, and electrocardiogram studies), and performing minor procedures. The NP or PA works collaboratively with physicians, physician assistants, nurses and other clinicians to provide high quality clinical, prevention, and consultation services. The NP or PA may also perform administrative and professional duties to support the delivery of high quality healthcare consistent with UHS policies, procedures, and professional standards. This is a permanent position. Daily work hours are Mon-Fri, 8:45am-5pm. May also be required to work some Saturdays (9am – 4pm) with a scheduled with off during the week. Additional work hours may include some evenings in the infirmary from 4:00pm – 7:00pm, as desired and/or required based on clinical operations. Responsibilities
Clinical Care (100%)
- Provides outpatient care consistent with UHS policies and procedures and in accordance with New Jersey Board of the Medical Examiner (NJBME), New Jersey Board of Nursing (NJBON), or respective professional licensing board regulations. This includes:
- Taking a history and doing a physical examination.Ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, ordering and preliminarily interpreting imaging and other diagnostic studies.Referring to appropriate consultants when indicated.Performing minor surgical procedures such as simple suturing and incision/drainage. Providing timely and appropriate documentation of the above in the electronic medical record (EMR), Medicat.Assessing psychosocial emotional, spiritual, environmental, biological, behavioral and cultural factors impacting the patient.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- New Jersey state certification as an Acute Care Nurse NP, Adult NP, Family NP, or PA.New Jersey Licensure as a registered professional NP or PA.Minimum of one year of experience working as an NP or PA.For NP’s, having received national certification through one of two certifying boards: 1) American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or 2) American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).For PA’s, having received national certification through the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certifications.Current Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) and Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registrations.Ability to perform physical assessments, including evaluation of trauma wounds and pelvic exams.Minor surgical skills, including suturing, incision and drainage (I &D).Ability to maintain professional standards with regard to relationships with patients, in a manner consistent with UHS values, NJBME and/or respective professional organizations’ standards.Ability to maintain professional standards in the management of confidential information and treat interactions with patients as privileged communications.Willingness to work in collaboration with consulting physicians.Excellent computer skills, ability to learn the UHS-specific EMR system, Medicat, effectively.
