Limited-term Instructor of Human Geography
The Department of Geology and Geography has a limited-term Instructor of Human Geography position open for which we seek to make a hire for the 2019-20 academic year. At Georgia Southern, limited-term instructors normally teach fifteen contact hours per semester, hold regular office hours, and participate in departmental meetings and activities. All limited-term positions are non-tenure track, academic-year (9/10 month) appointments. Appointments are for one year only, although there is the possibility of reappointment for a second year based on funding and satisfactory performance. The second year would be a terminal year, without exceptions. The salary is $42,000 plus benefits. The salary is not negotiable. Moving expenses are not included.
Position Description. Reporting to the Department Chair, the limited-term instructor, human geography position will teach sections of World Regional Geography (GEOG 1130), Nature and Society (GEOG 5435), and Cultural Geography (GEOG 5530). The Department offers undergraduate degree programs in both geology and geography and a graduate degree in Applied Geography. In addition, the minor in GIS attracts students from a range of disciplines.
• Earned master's degree (or higher) in Geography, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in Geography, by August 1, 2019.
• Ability to teach human geography courses at both the introductory and upper division levels.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
• Experience in preparing and teaching geography courses.
