PCC is looking for an Instructional Support Technician (IST) to directly support students and instructors in the premier microelectronics technician training program in the state of Oregon. To learn more about the program and the courses offered please see:https://www.pcc.edu/programs/microelectronics/Under the technical direction of one or more members of the faculty or an instructional administrator, the IST prepares laboratories and classrooms for instructors in Microelectronics Technology (MT) program; plans and designs experiments/demonstrations; participates in the delivery of the actual instruction and provides student supervision, assistance and evaluation and/or has been assigned lead responsibilities over classified staff.Ideal candidates will have work experience as a technician in the semiconductor manufacturing industry or related industry, including troubleshooting and maintenance of equipment used for one of more of the following: photolithography, etching, diffusion, planarization, thin-film deposition, ion implant, test/sort, and packaging. The MT program begins with courses in basic electronics and culminates with extensive training on LAM Rainbow 4520s etchers. It includes coursework on vacuum system trainers and plasma deposition systems. The IST should be familiar with maintaining and troubleshooting such systems, including soldering and component level repair/replacement as needed. The IST must work independently in resolving problems and making decisions but will participate collaboratively with instructors in the delivery of actual instruction. The IST will support student learning on test instruments and analytical equipment as well as computer-based systems.

Candidate Profile
These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications. In addition to outlined duties in the job classification description, this position requires:
  • Experience helping coordinate the day-to-day activities and overseeing the work of part-time or student workers employed in MT lab spaces.
  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting and doing inventory of equipment, materials, supplies, and written materials required for student instructional needs.
  • Experience with the equipment currently being used:
- Oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, DC power supplies, LabView software, DAQ cards, digital circuit trainers; - Varian vacuum trainers, MKS plasma trainers, Varian He checker, Varian turbo pump, Varian membrane pump, Varian scroll pump; - Siemens PLC, Allen Bradley PLC - Lam Rainbow etcher, chiller, Edwards dry pump - SMC MAP 200, IPC 200 trainers
  • Perform other related duties (such as assistance with the STEAM Lab and the Mechatronics Lab) as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).
  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years of post-secondary education in a technical discipline appropriate to the instructional support for the MT program ; relevant experience may substitute for the post-secondary education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Three years of experience in the industry as an equipment maintenance technician/field service engineer or equivalent.
  • Must have proven written and oral communications skills adequate to assist students in understanding the work they are to perform and learning detailed technical tasks.
  • Proven ability to lead others and evaluate performance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialized education beyond the two-year level in a specific technical discipline appropriate to the instructional support for the MT program (e.g. Engineering).
  • Years of experience in the industry beyond the three year minimum.
  • Professional training experience beyond the minimum.
  • Additional industry experience in other highly automated production environments or troubleshooting/maintaining similar technologies.
  • Experience with equipment installation and support facilities.
  • Experience supporting legacy equipment, manage equipment obsolescence, demonstrating resourcefulness in acquiring replacement and substitute parts.
Salary:
The first two steps of the range are: $3,369 to $3,470 per month. Higher salary placement may be available based on qualifications, experience and internal equity.

- Starts at 6.67 hours of vacation leave per month (additional vacation hours with years of service)
- 8 hours of sick leave per month
- 24 hours of additional personal leave days per year
- 11 Paid holidays
