ACC's Business, Government, and Technical Communications department seeks applicants for part-time, adjunct teaching positions in both our academic transfer course (ENGL2311: Technical and Business Writing) and our technical workforce courses (ETWR sections). ENGL 2311 is offered in classroom, hybrid, and online formats. ETWR "tech" courses are taught online exclusively. To teach ENGL 2311, candidates must hold a minimum of an MA in English or Technical Communications or a closely related field. Prior teaching and workforce experience as a technical writer preferred. Applicants for ETWR courses can hold the MA in English or Technical Writing, with appropriate work experience OR
a bachelors degree and significant workforce experience related to the course technical skills and learning outcomes. Preferred candidates for the technical courses will have demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following areas: multimedia, graphics, API documentation, GitHub, XML, XHTML, CSS, SEO, DITA, content management systems (i.e. Drupal, WordPress), Online Helps, documentation processes and content management, information architecture, content strategy, or social media tools and communications. Significant experience developing and teaching fully online, distance learning courses using Blackboard preferred.College Profile

Responsible to prepare and deliver Technical Communication coursework in engaging, innovative, and discipline-appropriate ways that reflect a commitment to success equity, respect for diversity, an understanding of culturally responsive teaching, and knowledge of the teaching field. Meets professional standards for faculty in accordance with college policies and procedures.Principal Responsibilities and DutiesPrepare and teach courses in the field of Technical Communication to a diverse student population based on the department's approved course learning outcomes, utilizing a variety of instructional strategies appropriate to the needs of community college students and the standards of the discipline.Evaluate student progress and provide clear, timely feedback reflecting program learning outcomes and departmental expectations.Provide teaching and mentoring services to students in a manner which does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected categories.Remain current in the field through a variety of professional development activities.Perform other related tasks as assigned by the department chair, dean, and/or associate vice president, vice president, executive vice president.
Demonstrated proficiency using computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom. Demonstrated proficiency using an online learning management system such as Blackboard to develop and build course content and perform administrative duties (posting office hours, syllabi, etc.)Principal Professional StandardsAppropriate use of the college's learning management system.Meet deadlines for attendance certification and submission of final course grades.Maintain regular office hours to assist students and improve student retention and success.Recognize and reflect standards of civility and collegiality in all interactions.Comply with published college policies and procedures and meet professional standards for teaching in a community college.
Required EducationEducational requirements in accordance with SACSCOC accreditation standards: Doctor's or Master's degree in Technical Communication or English, or Master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Technical Communication or English: or Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication or English, or Associate's degree in Technical Communication. SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on the courses taught within the discipline. Work Experience - Required
For ETWR tech courses, a minimum 3 years workforce experience writing, formatting, editing and publishing content in various formats employing current workflow processes. Previous teaching and online teaching experience desired by not required.
For ENGL 2311, 3 years experience teaching technical writing or a related experience. 3 years workforce experience preferred but not required. QualificationsAbility to maintain an established schedule which may include evenings and weekends and multiple campus locations.Effective planning, organization, communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality of work and student-related information.Understanding of the principles and practices associated with Servant-Leadership.Ability to handle sensitive issues relating to a diverse student body.Ability to effectively assist and assess student learning.Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds.Proficiency using computer applications, classroom or other current learning technologies for effective teaching.Effective teaching techniques adaptable to a variety of learning styles with an understanding of the comprehensive philosophy of community colleges.Knowledge of subject matter and related and/or relevant topics and issues in the discipline.
