Position Summary:

Under direct supervision, the Part-Time Assistant I, Biology Lab is responsible for lab preparation, delivery and clean-up in the areas of General Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Microbiology.

Job Functions:
  1. Supports lab manager and faculty in preparation and delivery of labs for multiple disciplines including General Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Microbiology
  2. Prepares some lab solutions such as culture media, stains and reagents. Properly handles and disposes of laboratory wastes
  3. Provides routine lab support including all aspects of lab safety, cleaning and dishwashing, and inspection and maintenance of lab classrooms including equipment and supplies needed for each class period
  4. Performs record keeping requiring accuracy and attention to detail
  5. Works with faculty and students as needed, especially staffing Open Lab periods for student independent work. Ensures proper supplies and safety procedures during this time
  6. Ensures the labs are clean, well-organized, and prepared for use
  7. Complies with and maintains safety standards at all times
  8. Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of the lab duties and responsibilities
  • Ability to interact with staff, students and faculty
  • Must be computer literate
  • Able to lift up to 40 lb. of lab equipment/supplies
  • Safety record and safety consciousness
  • Flexible and creative to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
Salary:
$9.95/hour

Work Schedule & Conditions:
  • PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment. General laboratory equipment including autoclaves,balances, microscopes, gel electrophoresis apparatus, and pH sensors
  • Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • A climate-controlled office with moderate exposure to safety hazards


QualificationsRequired:
  • High School diploma and successful completion of BIOL 1406 or equivalent college-level Biology coursework
