Position Summary:


The Student Support Services Tutor must demonstrate a mastery of the designated subject area and exhibit sensitivity toward students in the Student Support Services Program. Candidates will be required to attend training to obtain mandatory certification by the Lone Star College-North Harris Learning Center.


Job Functions: 

  1. Tutors students in the academic subjects of Math, English and Science
  2. Tutors students with homework assignments
  3. Assist students with the development of study skills necessary for post-secondary education
  4. Mentors students in the area of academics
  5. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned 
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Access
  • Excellent oral, written interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work cooperatively as a member of a team
Physical Abilities:
  • The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile.
  • No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
Salary:

$8.72/per hour

Work Schedule & Conditions:
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • Work hours vary with consideration given to Tutor's student class schedule. The Student Support Services lab is open Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm

QualificationsRequired:
