Position Summary:


Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the System. Lone Star College System accepts application material year-round from qualified applicants willing to teach on a part-time basis. Adjunct (part-time) faculty hiring is based on student demand. We offer day, evening, and weekend classes. Classes are offered at various times and locations during the academic year. As a rule, adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.


Job Functions:
  • Teaches Developmental Integrated Reading and Writing courses; provides interactive course instruction
  • Submits timely required college reports and forms
  • Develops and implements a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
  • Evaluates students by a variety of means to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and inform them in a timely manner of their progress in the course
  • Advises students in academic matters
  • Provides consistent, quality access for students through posted office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate methods
  • Maintains professional and consistent communication with students, Department Chairs, colleagues and staff
  • Attends meetings, training, and orientations as required
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Basic computer skills
  • Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service, and providing a dynamic climate for lifelong learning
  • Excellence in communication and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with strategies for working with students who are not yet college ready and who need help implementing effective learning processes, motivation principles, and confidence building techniques
  • Mastery of course content
  • Physical Abilities:
    • Minimal physical effort is required
    Salary:
    $41.75 per contact hour Work Schedule & Conditions: 
    • Hours will vary depending on class time. Instructors are required to meet with classes at all scheduled times and be available to students outside of class instruction

    QualificationsRequired:
    • Bachelor’s Degree with a major or minor in English, literature, creative writing or in a related field such as education, reading, writing, linguistics, or language arts; or Master’s Degree in English, literature, creative writing or in a related field such as education, reading, writing, linguistics, or language arts; or Bachelor’s degree with related teaching or training experience in one or more of the above mentioned fields
