Lone Star College-System Office employees are based at one of two System Office locations; The Woodlands and University Park. Both are the site for multiple administrative departments and system-wide training programs.

  Position Summary: 
The Business Analyst, LSC Online designs, delivers, and maintains business systems and application process solutions. Position defines business, financial and operations requirements and systems goals, prepares functional specifications for developers, and collaborates in the planning, design, development, testing, deployment and training of new or redesigned applications. Identifies complex, multi-faceted problems and takes immediate action to address them. Within LSC Online, the Business Analyst obtains, validates, organizes, and assesses varied qualitative and quantitative data and data sets for the purposes of analysis and reporting to team or leadership. Position provides reporting in easy to understand but comprehensive terms in a well fashioned format. Supports reporting via email, documentation, and public speaking to all levels including but not limited to Executives, Deans, Presidents, and Chancellors.   Job Functions: 
  1. Meets with faculty and staff to determine project needs, scope, stakeholders, and timelines

  2. Identifies business systems solution requirements by meeting with decision makers, systems owners and end users. Analyzes business, financial and operational work processes.  Evaluates options for developing and integrating new solutions, and identifies ways to improve data quality in order to improve processes and procedures for more streamlined efficiencies

  3. Performs comparative analysis of functions, procedures, and PeopleSoft best practices; refines functional requirements to include: prioritization, elimination and consolidation.  Creates, exports, and filters information to make it user friendly using the PeopleSoft Query and other analytical tools (e.g. Microsoft Power BI)

  4. Provides subject matter expertise for successful ongoing reporting, project activities, production support, enhancements and/or upgrades

  5. Reviews assigned departments’ business processes and assesses functionality with PeopleSoft and current analytical systems to determine functionality gaps.  Works with designated LSC personnel to identify appropriate changes in the business processes and/or required software modifications

  6. Develops appropriate test cases necessary to perform validation testing on all required LSC modifications, customizations, fixes, interface, and patches.  Participates in testing PeopleSoft updates/bundles/fixes/patches and conducts or facilitate testing for Quality assurance.  Confers with technical analysts, programmers, and database analysts to run tests and ensures business processes are operating correctly

  7. Documents requirements for internal and external interfaces, reports, workflow, and security access that support financial aid business processes and staff

  8. Participates in PeopleSoft functional training in order to assist in the integration and implementation processes. Maintains expertise on current systems

  9. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

  • Knowledge of business procedures and their interrelationships as well as an overall knowledge of technical disciplines recommended
  • Advanced knowledge of security requirements, web services, service-oriented architecture, design patterns, multi- threaded systems, and automated unit testing
  • Thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of professional field 
  • In-depth understanding of the purpose and operations outside own area, and the ability to understand internal/external clients; may require awareness of external trends and best practices 
  • Ability to recognize problems or situations that are new or without clear precedent and find solutions using a systematic, multi-step approach
  • Ability to balance competing short- and long-term goals within one's area in alignment with the larger area's direction and objectives 
  • Ability to actively seek help in gathering resources, solicits input, and uses a variety of techniques to reach a solution
  • Ability to effectively lead groups, monitoring group progress and influencing the direction of the group and departments as needed. Ability to address delicate situations requiring tact and diplomacy using written and verbal skills 
  • Ability to promote knowledge of own area to gain support for on-going and future initiatives 
  • Ability to provide process and project leadership and to use direct and indirect influence to build support and consensus among diverse groups
  • Ability to prioritize projects while following departmental processes
  • Ability to understand and follow standard operating procedures in a variety of areas 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing needs
  • Ability to recommend and influence best practice solutions when it comes to business process improvement and application design 
  • Proven ability to provide detailed configuration specifications documentation
  • Ability to understand the impact changes to system configuration will have on integrated ERP systems and existing internal and external interfaces
  • Working knowledge of software products and of enterprise systems and change control processes 
  • Excellent written and verbal English communications skills
Physical Abilities: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.


Salary:

$60,590


Work Schedule & Conditions: 
  • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment 

  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position

  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards bulleted and remove periods

QualificationsRequired:
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Project Management Training and Leadership and/or Management Training experience 
  • Experience documenting business requirements and process design 
  • ERP system experience 
Preferred:

  • Project Manager Certified
  • PeopleSoft experience 
  • Participation in at least 2 full-cycle PeopleSoft module implementations
