Work Conditions: Work is primarily indoor and sedentary in nature. Periodic teaching, including outdoors is required. Must have familiarity with diagnosing equipment problems and making simple repairs. May move equipment between training site locations occasionally.

Duties of Position:

To coordinate all aspects of Motorcycle Rider Program operations and ensure that the motorcycle safety education and training courses within the Harper College training region are delivered in an effective and efficient manner. Duties include the direct supervision of program staff and faculty. Serves as the direct contact for the site sponsor staff responsible for class coordination and for the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Prepares project proposals; manages proposal costs; selects and equips training sites; procures and maintains training equipment including motorcycles; prepares reports for course evaluation; and documents costs for reimbursement purposes. Represents the program on statewide committees.

Administration

Supervises the Assistant Project Coordinator, Project Specialist, Accountant, Mechanic / Field Coordinator and any other staff assigned to the Motorcycle Rider Safety Program

Responsible for all elements of the Motorcycle Rider Safety Program including interfacing with the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Coordinates communications with site sponsors, instructors and other campus units

Evaluates operational needs and supervises acquisitions of equipment and supplies

Maintains equipment inventory records and submits reports as required

Oversees program planning, budget development, and expenditures

Develops and administers program policies and procedures

Acquires additional and replacement training facilities

Works with the College’s Public Relations and Marketing staff to promote the program through all available media outlets

Evaluates curricula

Resolve student, staff and administrative issues, problems and concerns

Training

Develops training schedules

Recruits, trains, supervises and evaluates instructional and field staff

Evaluates range designs and adjusts to ensure optimal educational and safety objectives are met and maintained

Teaches at least one Basic Rider Course and one Rider Coach Preparation Course annually

Site Support

Oversight of motorcycle and equipment maintenance

Coordinates field operations and site logistics with the Mechanic/Field Coordinator

Participates in training site set-ups, maintenance and teardowns as needed

Assists in transferring equipment between operational locations

Operates trucks/cargo trailers on highways and congested metropolitan streets

Conducts quality assurance visits on a timely and regular basis as required by IDOT

Performs other duties as assigned

Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree required. MSF Certified Rider Coach (or attained within 18 months of hire). Class DM driver’s license or equivalent from another state. Clean driving record.

Experience Requirements: Two years’ experience in Illinois Department of Transportation’s Motorcycle Rider Safety Training Program or equivalent. Technical knowledge of motorcycles; extensive motorcycle riding experience; previous experience in teaching, administration and supervision, effective verbal and written communication skills to correspond with staff, site sponsors, media, students, and the general public; proficient computer skills including competence in word processing, spreadsheets, data manipulation and analysis.
