Position Summary:

It is the responsibility of the teaching adjunct faculty to provide the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. The adjunct faculty member's role encompasses the general areas of learning facilitation, professional development, and institutional service. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.

Adjunct faculty are hired in a part-time capacity on a semester-by-semester basis, contingent upon the needs of the System. Lone Star College System accepts application material year-round from qualified applicants willing to teach on a part-time basis. Adjunct (part-time) faculty hiring is based on student demand. We offer day, evening, and weekend classes. Classes are offered at various times and locations during the academic year. As a rule, adjunct faculty may teach a maximum of five classes
per academic year.

Job Functions:
  1. Teaches and prepares lessons for Adult Basic Education / English as Second Language classes
  2. Submits required college reports and forms
  3. Utilizes a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines
  4. Provides timely, quality access to students by appointment, electronic communication and other appropriate methods
  5. Continuously improves instructional quality by reviewing and utilizing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods, including collaborative learning, communities, services learning, instructional technology, and online learning
  6. Evaluates students by a variety of means to measure their progress in achieving course objectives and informs them in a timely manner of theirprogress
  7. Attends meetings, trainings and orientations as required
  8. Maintains professional relationships with students, colleagues and thecommunity
  9. Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned

Salary: 


$34.83 per contact hour

Work Schedule & Conditions:

  • PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
  • Internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
  • A climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards is the general work environment, unless otherwise stated in job announcement
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time within the LSC System and/or out of state with some overnight stays to support recruiting events in the spring and fall semesters

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required
  • At least one-year experience
Preferred:
  • Teaching experience working with adult students in a multi-level setting
  • Experience in working with a diverse population
