Job Summary
The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, 9-month Visiting Instructor position in the College of Nursing and Health Professions, School of Leadership and Advanced Nursing Practice. Qualified applicants with teaching/practice experience as a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) are welcome to apply.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

1. Develop and teach graduate courses and potentially upper-level undergraduate courses.

2. Contribute broadly to our thriving graduate and undergraduate nursing programs.

3. Mentor/advise nurse practitioners students.

4. Supervise nurse practitioner students and clinical faculty in the clinical setting (e.g., monitor clinical hours, approve preceptors, maintain clinical contracts).

5. Oversee Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCEs) for nurse practitioner students.

6. Develop and maintain syllabi, lesson plans, and more for each course taught.

7. Maintain the standards of The University of Southern Mississippi.

8. Possess a passion to education nurse practitioners.

9. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate(s) will possess a master’s degree in nursing (MSN). Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).

Applicants must have 3 years’ clinical experience in each of the specialty areas (FNP).

Applicants must have 1 year experience teaching nurse practitioner students.

Candidates must hold an unencumbered license to practice nursing in the State of Mississippi, meet all requirements of the affiliated clinical agencies, and satisfy a criminal background check.

Salary and appointment to Visiting Assistant will be commensurate with qualifications and experience appropriate for that rank.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Utilizes personal computer, computer software (PeopleSoft, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point), photocopy machine, fax machine, and telephone. Also uses standard office equipment such as stapler, staple remover, and scissors.

Skill in computer keyboard use. Knowledge of or willingness to learn Canvas, Meditrax, and other related educational platforms. Basic knowledge and skill of maneuvering within Windows-based software applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Basic knowledge and skill on Internet browsers to access web sites. Basic knowledge and skill of using email to send and receive correspondence. Proficiency in using search engines and web-based applications for research. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Access for reports and documents. Knowledge and skill in incorporating software tools and equipment into office procedures.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organizations.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
May supervise graduate assistants or student workers. Will frequently supervise College of Nursing and Health Professions students.
