The Graduate School at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus has an opening for a full-time, university staff(unclassified) Information Technology Specialist position.  
Jobs in this career family develop, maintain, and support computer systems, software and networks.  Functions include enterprise operations, distributed computing, academic computing, research computing, computer hardware and software management, computer networking, telecommunications, systems development, database administration, server administration, website management, programming, desktop support, and help desk operations.
Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field. 
At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.
Job Summary:The Information Technology Specialist works closely with the Senior Director of IT in order to provide technology support to the Graduate School (GS) staff and constituency. The ideal candidate for this position will be a curious technology generalist. For example, if you run your own home Linux server as a hobby, this job might be a good fit for you. 
Examples of Work Performed:
Database/Reports management: 
  • Interface with internal databases and university data-sources. Convert data between presentation formats. Automate reporting and import/export functions wherever possible. 
  • Assist the senior director in consolidating data storage mechanisms and in the migration of existing data into those systems as well as in the development of modern user interfaces to those systems.    
Help to ensure data integrity and data consistency by providing training and technical services to GS staff on use of proprietary databases
  • Add, update, or modify database records and tables as necessary
  • Design reports for GS staff to be able to access various data within the database
  • Anticipate needs and assist in planning for future database enhancement/upgrades in response to industry trends and user needs
Computer setup and maintenance:
  • Set up new computers, printers, laptops, and smart phones, assisting with the procurement process when necessary
  • Keep all GS computing devices up to university standards by installing appropriate software and joining devices to the network domain
  • Support GS staff in their computing needs, troubleshoot and correct any issues pertaining to computers and software
  • Maintain an inventory of all computer hardware and software license records
File server and backup systems: 
  • Maintain Linux-based file servers and versioned, multi-site backup solution infrastructure.
  • Support GS registration forms, surveys, and distribution lists
  • Survey technologies include Limesurvey, Qualtrics, and Formstack instances
  • Maintain GS mailing lists, mailbox access control lists, and Exchange-based distribution groups
  • Monitor listserv moderation queues and delegate administrative access to GS partners
Website support: 
  • Assist the recruiting and marketing director with website technical considerations like SEO, analytics, and ActiveServer-imposed limitations
  • Assist with maintaining a useful store of “reusable content” for other programs to use from our website to theirs
  • Manage and maintain Google index via Google Webmaster Tools
Miscellaneous duties:
  • Assess and automate processes wherever possible
  • Assist graduate programs with maintaining course shells in the Canvas Content Management System (CMS)
  • Provide audio/visual support for GS events, setting up projectors, microphones, and remote participation via Zoom
  • Monitor and maintain GS multi-function copies

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Networking or a related field
  • At least one (1) year of professional experience in a technology support position, or similar related experience
  • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis, but not for the specific one (1) year of experience.
PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Networking or related field
  • At least two (2) years of professional experience in a technology support position, or similar related experience
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS, and Debian-based Linux systems installation, maintenance, domain membership, and user profile migration
  • Experience formatting, installing the OS, and updating computers and software programs
  • Familiarity with HTML, CSS, Adobe Acrobat forms processing (LiveCycle Designer)
  • Experience with a wide variety of both desktop and web-based applications
  • Experience with university student information systems (PeopleSoft/Campus Solutions or Banner)

  • Must possess a professional demeanor and have experience that demonstrates problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently with minimal supervision as well as a natural inclination toward customer service
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • Ability to successfully and communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to take direction and use independent judgment to coordinate and meet multiple deadlines
Salary & Benefits:
  • The hiring range for this position has been established at $54,000 to $65,000 and is commensurate with skills and experience
  • This position is not eligible for overtime compensation
