The Department of Pediatrics, the Section of PediatricGastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition of the University of Colorado Schoolof Medicine (CU SOM) and the Digestive Health Institute of Children’s HospitalColorado (CHCO) are seeking a BC/BE pediatric gastroenterologist for a facultyposition to be located in ColoradoSprings at the Briargate Clinic. The candidate must be thoroughly trainedand experienced in pediatric gastroenterology and GI diagnostic procedures andqualify for appointment at the AssistantProfessor rank as a Clinical-Educator in the CU SOM. Primaryresponsibilities will include outpatient clinical evaluation and management ofpatients with pediatric gastrointestinal disease at the Briargate Clinic inColorado Springs and inpatient consultations and performance of GI proceduresat the new 100 bed Children’s Hospital in Colorado Springs (operated by CHCO)which is located across the street from the Briargate Clinic, and which willopen in Spring 2019. The Briargate GI Clinic and the hospital have full-timedietician and social worker support and on-site infusion center, laboratory,and radiology facilities. In addition to clinical responsibilities, educationand teaching of medical students, pediatric gastroenterology fellows, andothers will be an important responsibility. The successful candidate will have experience and knowledge of allpediatric GI and hepatology disorders; demonstrated skills in the full gamut ofpediatric GI endoscopic and other procedures; excellent teaching and educationskills, and excellent communication and team skills. The candidate will havecompleted fellowship in good standing in Pediatric Gastroenterology atRRC-approved fellowship program (or equivalent), MD (or equivalent) degree andAmerican Board of Pediatrics Board Certified in Pediatrics, and BE/BC inPediatric Gastroenterology. The candidate will join 4 other Physicians and 2PAs at our Colorado Springs location. Colorado Springs is a vibrant city with a metro population of 700,000,located 60 miles south of Denver at the base of Pikes Peak, within one of themost scenic areas of Colorado.

 

The successful candidate will jointhe Colorado Springs team in an expanding group of collaborative, dedicatedacademic pediatric gastroenterologists and hepatologists in a PediatricGI/Hepatology program at one of the top 10 Children’s Hospitals in the UnitedStates (https://www.childrenscolorado.org/doctors-and-departments/departments/digestive/). The Section is currently composed of 30 MD and 5 PhD faculty members, 9fellows in an NIH T32-funded training program, 9 Nurse Practitioner/PhysicianAssistants, and a large team of nurses, dieticians, social workers,psychologists, transplant coordinators and support staff with the commonmission of improving the digestive health of children.  Colorado Springs has 4 physicians, 2 APPs, 4dieticians and a social worker.   Highest quality patient care, cutting-edgeresearch and career development and training are all of highest priority. TheSection includes specific Centers or Programs in pediatric liver disease andtransplantation, inflammatory bowel disease, eosinophilic GI diseases, celiacdisease, intestinal rehabilitation, aerodigestive disorders,neurogastroenterology and motility, pancreatic disorders, and advancedtherapeutic endoscopy. Salary will be based on rank and includes an excellentbenefits package. All faculty appointments are within the University ofColorado SOM, one of the top public medical schools in the nation. Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this positionis negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is noteligible for overtime compensation.

Qualifications

Examples of Work Performed:

  • Patient care in Pediatric Gastrointestinal Diseases at Children's Hospital Colorado (CHCO) Colorado Springs and CU Briargate Specialty Clinics for Children locations, including inpatient attending and outpatient clinics, as well as performing the full range of gastrointestinal procedures, including performance of procedures at CHCO facilities.
  • Provide consultative and call support services for CHCO and affiliated healthcare partners.
  • Clinical focus in GI diseases and be experienced in the full gamut of pediatric GI disorders and GI procedures
  • Education and teaching of pediatric residents, pediatric gastroenterology fellows, students, and others
  • Attend relevant conferences and continuing education opportunities
  • Attend periodic Anschutz and Briargate faculty meetings via teleconference or in-person
  • Minimum Requirements

  • Completed fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at RRC-approved fellowship (or equivalent)
  • MD degree
  • American Board of Pediatrics Board Certified in Pediatrics
  • Board Eligible or certified in Pediatric Gastroenterology or Transplant Hepatology 
  •  Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in quality improvement projects.
  • Two or more years of clinical experience.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals in pediatric gastroenterology or related fields.
  •  Competencies

  • Knowledge of all pediatric GI disorders
  • Demonstrated skills in the full gamut of pediatric GI endoscopic and other procedures
  • Excellent teaching and education skills, knowledge and training of pediatric gastroenterology
