The Graphic Designer position provides direction for and creation of printed, digital and display materials for programs, events and services emanating from departments and units across campus. The position is responsible for the conceptual development and creation of printed, digital and display materials using Adobe Creative Cloud. This position is responsible for the planning, design, layout, illustration and preparation of visual media including, but not limited to, advertisements, newsletters, brochures, posters, banners, signs, t­shirts, display boards, web graphics and other materials. Marketing materials for departments and programs are prepared for both internal (on campus) and external (community) audiences. The Graphic Design position also provides design and application guidance for units’ visual branding both individual and overarching, as detailed in UNCW Brand Identity Guide (BIG). The position also manages documents and graphics for many departments to ensure a consistent and compliant image.

N.C. Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

High school diploma or equivalency and two years of visual/graphic arts experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Additional knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position

•Proven artistic and design skills
• Thorough knowledge and expertise in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, specifically PowerPoint
• Ability to work effectively as a team member, collaborate with others and establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, fellow workers and the general public
• Knowledge of printing processes and experience preparing and packaging files for production
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to understand and effectively follow instructions
• Accurate typing and proofreading skills
• Strong project management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and prioritize based on project deadlines
• Experience with Asana or similar project management system
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and assignments sometimes under tight deadlines
• Ability to follow and integrate university brand standards in all designs
• Understanding of effective design for marketing high education to multiple audiences

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in a graphic arts/design or related field and at least two years’ experience in print and digital design, development and production, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Wide variety of design experience from logos and flyers to high­end multipage printed publications and websites
• Advanced ­level of knowledge and expertise in the use of Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Acrobat
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, specifically PowerPoint
