School/Center OverviewThe School of Social Policy and Practice contributes to the advancement of more effective, efficient, and humane human services through education, research, and civic engagement. DutiesReporting to the Director of Financial Operations, the Senior Business Administrator serves as a critical member of the School of Social Policy and Practice’s Finance and Administration team. The position provides support and guidance to senior-level group members, other F&A staff, and SP2 constituents. Grant responsibilities include providing pre- and post-award backup to the Grants Manager in the areas of grant budgeting and PennERA submissions, payroll processing, review and approval of reimbursements and sponsored research expenditures, account reconciliations, and monthly reporting. The Senior BA also serves as a high-level reviewer and approver for all non-grant transactions, and provides feedback to other team members as it pertains to compliance with Penn and SP2 financial policies. Under the guidance of the Director, the Senior BA will also manage the School’s payroll processes, including the hiring of full-time and part-time faculty and staff. This position plays a vital role in assisting the F&A group and the School in their goal of continually improving financial processes, while ensuring effective stewardship of School and University resources.
QualificationsBA/BS degree with 3-5 years’ experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a University Business office environment, are required; experience with Penn’s financial, grant, and reporting systems (BEN, PennERA, UMIS, Business Objects and Hyperion) as well as intermediate skills in Microsoft office (particularly Excel) a plus; some grants experience preferred.
The successful candidate will have an engaged and responsible work ethic, a pro-active work style, and the desire to add value to and improvements in existing systems of grant and non-grant financial management. Must clearly demonstrate attention for detail and have highly effective interpersonal skills; the ability to enforce policy guidelines with constituents in a professional and diplomatic manner; and the ability to collaborate well with individuals of diverse backgrounds and skill sets within different areas of the School. Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively and remain flexible in order to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
