Duties

The IT Support Specialist A provides local computing support for faculty and staff for Pennsylvania Equine Toxicology and Research Laboratory. By installing, supporting, and maintaining a variety of technologies, finding and implementing solutions for end users, and serving as a technological consultant, the IT Support Specialist A will help Pennsylvania Equine Toxicology and Research Laboratory make effective use of technology in all aspects of research, teaching, and administrative missions.

The IT Support Specialist provides IT support for the Pennsylvania Equine Toxicology and Research Laboratory. The position ensures that all clients in the Pennsylvania Equine Toxicology and Research Laboratory are receiving a high level of IT support, by aiding faculty, staff, and graduate students, as well as by coordinating the work of the group’s part-time workers. The position also works with faculty to find new ways to support their research through technology and to collaborate on the creation of such solutions.

The types of support provided by this position include software installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of desktop computers, mobile devices, and applications. The position is also responsible for ensuring that all computers are configured securely and that customers are made aware of all data backup options available to them. In addition, this position supports IT for conference rooms in the Pennsylvania Equine Toxicology and Research Laboratory and is responsible for coordinating the repair of any hardware issues that may arise.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required; experience supporting Windows 7/8/10, MacOS, Microsoft Office and common networking and utility applications required; knowledge of Windows desktop system administration in an Active Directory environment preferred; familiarity with basic desktop hardware support and maintenance required; excellent customer service and spoken/written communication skills required; ability to work and communicate with users of varying levels of expertise required; organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple tasks and projects and adapt to frequent change required; ability to work independently with limited direct supervision in a self-motivated and self-directed manner required; ability to work as a member of a team required.
