Job Description

This is a tenure-track position in the School of Natural Resources (SNR; at the University of Missouri (MU), Columbia. The successful candidate will develop a nationally and internationally recognized and externally-funded research program. Research specialties that align with MU’s strengths could include nature-based tourism, sport tourism, and agricultural tourism. Teaching responsibilities may include undergraduate courses such as Foundations of Tourism, Tourism Planning and Development, and Program and Event Development, as well as specialty graduate level courses (total of 3-4 courses per year) and advising and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. The position will strengthen growing education programs, collaborative research programs and contribute greatly toward improving grant and publication metrics considered in the Association of American Universities’ (AAU) rankings.


Ph.D. in Tourism or a closely related discipline. The area of expertise should complement existing institutional strengths in natural resources, recreation, sport, and/or hospitality. Candidates should demonstrate a strong research program or the potential for developing one, in addition to outstanding teaching credentials. Preferred qualifications include impactful peer-reviewed publications and a level of grantsmanship that reflects high productivity relative to the applicant’s career stage. The candidate should have a demonstrated interest in working with state and federal agencies and other private and public stakeholders. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
