Job Description

The Department of Hospitality Management (HM) at the University of Missouri invites applications for a faculty position at the Instructor level to teach undergraduate courses and supervise food service laboratory. The position involves primarily teaching courses in food service management, supervision of laboratory sections and responsible for the HM retail operations including the Café and catering events; serving on campus, college, and division committees and projects as assigned. Research activities are encouraged. Additional responsibilities include; recruiting & advising undergraduate students; increasing visibility of the program, developing internship opportunities and build industry relationship.

The Hospitality Management Program, with 470+ students, is one of the largest programs in the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources with professional tracks in Food & Beverage Management, Lodging Management, and Conference & Event Management and Sport Venue Management (for details, please visit the website: The MU campus, with approximately 35,000 students, is in a beautiful university town of 100,000, and Columbia offers many amenities including outstanding public schools, great health care facilities, clean environment, rich recreational and cultural activities, and easy access to St. Louis and Kansas City.


Master Degree or equivalent experience in hospitality or business related field, food and beverage training and hospitality industry experience is required. It is preferable that the candidate possess a culinary degree from an accredited culinary program. Candidates will be evaluated on their demonstrated ability to supervise teaching labs, student operated restaurant, teaching background and willingness to work as a team. The position is benefit-eligible, professional (non-tenure) track, academic appointment, and salary commensurate with qualifications.
