SCAD seeks a System Administrator to work with the latest server, network, desktop and storage hardware in a team-oriented environment. In this role, you will perform hands-on work with the university’s server and network hardware, datacenter power and monitoring systems. You will also be directly involved in Windows and Linux desktop imaging, troubleshooting and the support of advanced digital labs.

The System Administrator reports to the technology services manager and works with and relays advanced issues and support through third-party vendors including power, HVAC and generator/battery backup support.

Daily duties include reviewing outstanding issues with local or remote teams to plan and prioritize remediation; coordinating facility changes; troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing desktop operating systems; maintaining hardware and server inventory; keeping standard documentation regarding services, configuration and customizations; alerting appropriate personnel of any significant outages or concerns; integrating systems with management utilities for maintenance and inventory requirements; working with shipping and receiving to validate incoming orders and inventory as they arrive; managing document network connected equipment such as scanners, copiers, thermostats, online building equipment and printers; coordinating activities with remote teams in multiple locations, countries and campuses; monitoring, auditing and responding to daily backup activity and functionality; configuring and responding to all appropriate services, host availability reports and service alerts and overseeing hardware lifecycle management including inventory, recycling and disposal.

The ideal candidate has an understanding of enterprise network topologies as well as VLANS, VLAN tagging, VLAN assignments and subnets. He or she is able to handle detailed instructions and communicate clearly with remote teams regarding connectivity, labeling, and server setup and configuration. Experience deploying standardized operating systems to servers and clients; a proven history in documenting, labeling and integrating data networks and/or data center cabinets, and/or fiber channel environments; and exposure to configuring, deploying, securing and supporting desktop operating systems is essential.


•Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field or equivalent combination of experience and education

•An understanding of enterprise network topologies as well as VLANS, VLAN tagging, VLAN assignments and subnets

Must be familiar with hands-on enterprise support operations such as backup media administration, replacing failed SAN disks, working with network and fiber patch panels, patch cables, network switch installation, access point installation and configuring remote troubleshooting.
