SCAD Savannah seeks an Associate Chair of Illustration to ensure students experience the exploration, conceptualization and creation of illustrated visual assets with traditional and digital media techniques. In this role, you will develop curriculum and assist the chair in evaluating professors through their service and professional development, contributions to departmental goals, class observations and student course evaluations. You’ll also teach classes annually, as assigned.

SCAD illustration students have garnered awards and recognition from Applied Arts Magazine, 3X3, CMYK, American Illustration, Creative Quarterly, the Society of Illustrators in New York and Los Angeles, and have received top honors at Red Dot Design Award competitions in Berlin. They have also partnered with major brands like Coca-Cola, Rubbermaid, Kroger and Lexus. Our students work with publishers like Rolling Stone, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The New York Times.

In consultation with the chair, dean and department members, you’ll develop a strategic plan for the department consistent with the School of Communication Arts’ goals and the overall SCAD strategic plan. With the department chair, you’ll provide vision and leadership for the illustration department, oversee scheduling of classes and handle logistics of department events. You’ll also foster interdepartmental collaboration, enhance the reputation of the SCAD illustration department in academic and professional communities and work with the admission department to recruit exceptional undergraduate and graduate students to the university.

This is your chance to work with talented students within the historic district of Savannah, Georgia, a walkable, bikeable coastal city that provides a living laboratory for the study of art and design.
