Diablo Valley College is seeking a full-time tenure track instructor and Program Director for Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting. The successful applicant will be well qualified to provide the leadership required to ensure accomplishments of the goals and objectives of the dental programs as well as maintain the educational standards established by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association for Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting and the Dental Hygiene Committee of California (DHCC). The successful applicant will also be well-qualified to teach all aspects of didactic/clinical curriculum and conduct all work activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of population, views, and learning styles. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success in the classroom by developing and using highly effective teaching strategies that meet students’ diverse needs and that promote the acquisition and application of knowledge and the development of critical and creative thinking and problem-solving skills. In addition to contractual duties, all full-time faculty are expected to participate actively in their disciplines, department activities, and the general intellectual life and governance of the college. Part of the teaching assignment may be in the evening and/or online. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1.advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines;

11.maintaining attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submitting them according to published deadlines;

DVC is seeking a FT instructor and Director of Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting. You must meet the following job qualifications adopted by Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).
CODA Requirements for Program Administrator Dental Hygienist: Possess a master’s degree or higher degree program or a dentist who has a background in education and the professional experience necessary to understand and fulfill the program goals. The program administrator background should include admin experience, instructional experience, and professional experience in a clinical practice either as a dental hygienist or working with a dental hygienist.
CODA Requirements for Program Administrator Dental Assisting: Must be a Certified Dental Assistant, or Dentist licensed to practice in the state of California with occupational experience in the application of fourhanded dentistry principles, either as a Dental Assistant or working with a chair side assistant. You must hold a baccalaureate degree or higher. The program administrator must have instruction in educational theory and methodology, e.g. curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement and evaluation.
All dental hygiene program faculty members must have:
a) current knowledge of the specific subjects they are teaching
b) documented background in current educational methodology concepts consistent with teaching assignments
c) faculty who are dental hygienists or dentists must have graduated from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
d) have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.
License/Certificates/Credentials: 1. A current, active California Registered Dental Hygienist license in good standing with required certification in local anesthesia, nitrous oxide sedation, soft tissue curettage, and BLS for Healthcare Provider; OR
2. A current, active California DDS/DMD license in good standing with required certification in BLS for Healthcare Provider with occupational experience in dental hygiene duties and functions; AND
3. Must possess a Certified Dental Assistant Certificate by July 1, 2019
4. As per CODA accreditation standards, completed thirty (30) hours of teaching methodology; AND
5. Demonstrated background in and current knowledge in the subject matter taught prior to July 1, 2019.

9.Master’s degree or currently enrolled in a Master’s program (not needed for licensed California dentists).
10. Certified Dental Assistant (not needed for licensed California dentists).
11. Demonstrated interest and ability to work within the department, division, and college community to achieve the strategic goals of the college, which are focused on excellence, institutional effectiveness, student success, and achieving equity in the rates of educational outcomes across student demographic groups.
12. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.
13. Have occupational experience in the application of clinical chairside dental assisting involving fourhanded dentistry.

The United Faculty positions are within a collective bargaining unit. United Faculty employees are required to join the union or pay an equivalent service fee. The monthly contribution is an agency fee of .55 % of gross pay + $2.50.How to Apply

4. After consultation with the interview committee, the college president will make the final recommendation for employment to the chancellor and the governing board of the Contra Costa Community College District.
