The Freshman College is recruiting for an Academic Advisor/Student Support Coordinator.
Responsibilities
The Academic Advisor/Student Support Coordinator Freshman College reports to the Director of Freshman College. The Academic Coordinator of the Freshman Year Experience works in conjunction with the Director, Freshman Year Experience Coordinating committee, and others across campus to facilitate efforts aimed at increasing the retention and success rates of first year students. The coordinator monitors the academic progress of freshman students and provides individualized intervention strategies for academically low performing students; provides academic and career counseling to freshmen students; assists with advising and registering undeclared majors and declared majors that have not attained departmental requirements; coordinates tutorial program and other evidence-based academic retention strategies; and assists in the planning of Early Registration and Freshmen Orientation Week activities. Serves as co-facilitator of UNIV 101 and 102 classes and performs any other duties within the scope of this position.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education Administration, Student Services, or a related discipline is required and master’s degree preferred with a minimum of three (3) years of experience working with college students, preferably with first year students. Candidate must possess knowledge of academic programs and general education requirements, a working knowledge of developmental needs of a diverse student population, and have the ability to use appropriate and accessible technologies for advising and work projects. The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication, organizational and time management skills; excellent problem solving skills; proficiency in software programs such as Microsoft Office, Tutor Trac, Insight Advising, etc.; and the ability to maintain accurate records/documentation; and to relate positively to students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the community; and possess independence to work with minimal supervision required.
