Standard workdays M-F, 8am – 5pm
This position requires on-call work and flexibility to work occasional overtime, nights and/or weekends.

Basic Function

The IT Systems Administrator will provide support, maintain, and configure user experience information systems on the Guilford College IT&S network/server infrastructure. The job will include basic administration of server systems, user account creation, changes, and password maintenance. The person in the role will create an effective, efficient, and intuitive onboarding and off boarding strategy for new faculty, staff, students, and college affiliates. They will also support and maintain the college Google for Education Suite, door access system, and the standard college printing system. They will also be expected to cross train and mentor Help Desk associates and other IT&S employees on the systems they support.

Duties and Responsibilities

•Administer campus user accounts, which includes moves, adds, and changes for Active Directory, Google G Suite, Banner, Papercut printing, Door Access, and other identity based systems.
•Manage and maintain user on boarding and off boarding process.
•Provide diagnosis and resolution of system (hardware and software) problems.
•Provision new virtual machines in the virtual infrastructure.
•Perform evaluation of new technologies and provide vendor recommendations.
•Develop, implement and maintain departmental policies, standards, and procedures for the IT&S network.
•Liaise with and provide training and support to help desk, network team, systems team, application team and other campus departments on network issues.
•Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers and contractors for product evaluations, technical implementation planning, and procuring system-specific products and services.
•Stay abreast of new technologies and make recommendations to the Director of Institutional Technology and Services and other members of IT&S.
•Manage 4-5 projects simultaneously.
•Provide 24×7 emergency on-call services on a rotating basis.
•Other relevant job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems and/or Computer Science or related field.
•3+ years of experience in IT infrastructure support and design (will be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree).
•Experience with Microsoft Server OS and Active Directory.
•Experience with VMware vSphere.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with a broad constituency of end-users with varying needs and experience.
•Strong problem solving skills
•Highly organized, detail oriented and capable of efficient and effective follow through.
•Excellent customer service attitude and willingness to help students, faculty and staff who are often under pressure due to time constraints or deadlines are required.

Preferred Qualifications

•5+ years of experience in server infrastructure support.
•Experience with Linux/Unix servers.
•Experience with NetApp SAN solutions.
•Experience with Cisco UCS server solutions.
•Experience with Veeam backup solution.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to move around campus easily.
Be able to lift 50 lbs.
