Florida Atlantic University Academic Advisor

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Advise current students on curriculum issues.
  • Monitor students’ progress through “Case-Load” advising  to ensure that students are graduating in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate orientation sessions for newly admitted students.
  • Perform and participate in outreach activities to high schools, junior colleges, and other institutions whose students might be interested in continuing their education at FAU.
  • Collaborate with other Advising Unit and College(s) on shared programs and curriculum.
  • Serve as liaison with department chairs/faculty on changes in curriculum issues.
  • Work on Self and Unit professional development through participation in professional associations and conferences.
  • Reinforce and support student degree progress, academic success and retention, in alignment with university strategic goals and initiatives.
  • Evaluate transcripts and admission requirements for prospective students. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization required.

Master's degree in Education, Counseling or an academic field directly related to the advisor's area of responsibility and at least one year of Academic Advising or related experience preferred.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential to success in this position.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.

Must also have excellent customer service, organizational and time management skills.

Specialization in Higher Education Administration/Student Affairs preferred.

Experience with student database software and degree audit software, prior use of Banner/DARS preferred.

Salary:

$47,666 - $52,000 - Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
