The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Rhode Island invites applications for a tenure-track Professor / Department Chair in Physical Therapy, with extensive experience in teaching and scholarship that complements the mission of the Department, College, and University. The position will be a calendar year appointment with a start date no later than September 2020. The Department is located within the College of Health Sciences and is part of the University’s Academic Health Collaborative which also includes the Colleges of Pharmacy and Nursing, and the Institute for Integrated Health and Innovation. The Department is recognized for excellence in teaching, service, professional leadership, scholarship, and international opportunities for students, strong clinical education partners, and our on-site clinic. Annually, a cohort of 32 students are accepted and taught by a dedicated and experienced faculty. The Program received full (10 year) CAPTE re-accreditation in 2016.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will be expected to lead and administer the Department with oversight of: fiscal, curricular, personnel, outcome assessment and accreditation components based on a shared vision aligned to the missions of the Department, College, University, and APTA; mentor and support the professional development of faculty and students; contribute directly to the delivery of the DPT curriculum; foster links with academic and professional colleagues on campus and throughout the community; and be active in the APTA and ACAPT. In general, individuals are encouraged to apply who will contribute to the Department’s commitment to scholarship, evidence-based practice, collaborative and inclusive teaching, and who will be a strong advocate for the Department.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

1) A Ph.D. or equivalent.

2) Eligible for physical therapist licensure in Rhode Island.

3) Experience in teaching graduate students in a clinical program.

4) Experience in securing funding for research.

5) Demonstrated proficiency in oral communication skills.

6) Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

7) Demonstrated experience in working with diverse groups/populations.

8) Current membership in the APTA.

PREFERRED:

1) Experience as Department Chair, Program Director, or in a comparable leadership position.

2) Demonstrated experience in interdepartmental and interdisciplinary collaboration.

3) Demonstrated knowledge or experience with accreditation processes including outcome assessment.

4) Demonstrated successful teaching in areas that complement the existing curriculum.

5) Demonstrated research in areas that complement existing programs and foci in the Department, College of Health Sciences, Academic Health Collaborative, and/or other affiliated entities.

6) Demonstrated experience in graduate student and faculty mentoring.

7) Evidence of leadership in obtaining successful CAPTE accreditation.

8) Demonstrated success in securing external research funding.

9) Demonstrated competence in professional fiscal management.

10) Demonstrated professional involvement at the state, national, or international level.

11) Doctor of physical therapy degree.

Four campuses, one community

URI’s main campus is located on 1,248 acres in rural Kingston, where the campus core — including a quadrangle surrounded by handsome granite buildings — is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Six miles from Rhode Island’s beaches, this campus is conveniently situated along the Boston to New York corridor. The University’s renowned Graduate School of Oceanography is located at the 165-acre Narragansett Bay Campus. The Alan Shawn Feinstein College of Education and Professional Studies brings higher education to downtown Providence. Nearby, the 133,000-square-foot Rhode Island Nursing Education Center URI Picture 2includes unparalleled simulation labs. The W.
