East Carolina University (ECU) is a public doctoral/research university in Greenville, North Carolina and is the fourth largest university in North Carolina. ECU is home to nine undergraduate colleges, a graduate school, and four professional schools. The oldest school is the modern day College of Education. All teacher education programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

Job Duties

The Department of Literacy Studies, English Education, and History Education in the College of Education at East Carolina University is seeking applicants for a nine-month, full-time, visiting faculty position available August 2019.

Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate reading/literacy education courses in both face-to-face and online environments. Opportunity to contribute to active research projects is a possibility, as is pursuing the candidate’s own line of research.

Minimum Education/Experience

Ph.D. or Ed.D. from an appropriately accredited institution in reading education, curriculum and instruction, literacy education, or literacy studies; teaching experience in public school settings and eligibility for NC teaching licensure.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Eligibility for NC teaching license

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Candidates from historically underrepresented populations and/or candidates whose work has been historically marginalized by mainstream educational research or practice. Other preferred qualifications include: (1) experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate reading/literacy/ELA courses; (2) experience using Canvas or another LMS for online teaching; (3) experience teaching reading/literacy coursework connected to field experiences, (4) knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction and culturally-relevant pedagogies; (5) demonstrated potential to contribute to literacy-related research and/or course development.
