Job Details
Senior level software support engineer position with significant lead responsibility for the implementation, management, and technical support of CANVAS as the college’s Learning Management System. Manages technical and functional integrations of related software with appropriate vendors, other technical staff, and the VCCS. Insures achievement of college goals through development of college-specific adaptations, implementations, and strategies to use advanced features and functionality available in the software. Provides for successful implementation through dissemination and delivery of training, development of self-instructional materials, development of online guides, and coordination with campus staff. Researches and resolves complex problems and challenges across the college’s 2800 users. Telecommuting possible with some onsite required.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupports and expands the use of CANVAS across the college by providing technical support, functional support, and training to the college’s 2800 users. Manages consultants and other dedicated resources, and coordinates with campus staff to deliver ongoing training and support. Works with the vendor, other technical partners, and the VCCS to insure the CANVAS implementation meets college user needs, integrates with other systems, and address college priorities. Creates adaptions, work processes, tools, and guides as needed. Disseminates and delivers in person and virtual training, and develops self-instructional and other online materials and guides.
Minimum QualificationsMaster’s degree in Instructional Technology or related field or equivalent applicable experience or training in instructional Technology.Demonstrated expert knowledge of CANVAS. Demonstrated knowledge of CANVAS best practices. Significant experience delivering formal CANVAS support and training. Demonstrated experience delivering virtual support and training through the use of web conferencing software. Significant experience managing CANVAS integrations and implementation activities.
Preferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in Instructional Technology or related field. Experience delivering in person training for Instructure. Demonstrated significant experience delivering synchronous virtual training through webinars. Community College experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesDemonstrated expert knowledge of CANVAS and support of end-users using CANVAS. Demonstrated knowledge of CANVAS best practices and relationship to pedagogy. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex CANVAS problems. Demonstrated experience building courses using CANVAS. Expert-level ability to support users and deliver training through use of web conferencing software. Excellent understanding of the faculty perspective and what faculty most value in quality training experiences. Ability to produce and deliver large volume of successful training in a rapidly changing, demanding environment. Ability to design and produce online end-user guides and support materials. Classroom teaching experience. Ability to manage other CANVAS support staff and resources. Ability to manage a heavy workload, concurrently work on multiple issues, and meet deadlines.Demonstrated excellent people skills for working with both technical staff and end users.
