Position Summary

The Graduate School of International Policy and Management (GSIPM) at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS) located in Monterey, California invites applications for a one year visiting professor position in the field of International Education Management. The selected candidate will teach master’s level courses at our Monterey, CA campus. The MA in International Education Management (IEM) degree offers a three-semester degree comprised of one intensive academic year on campus followed by 4 to 6 month professional practicum in the international education field. The program prepares practitioners to design and manage programs for meaningful cross-cultural engagement. Students have the opportunity to add a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) specialization or complete a joint IEM-MPA (Master of Public Administration) degree.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions General Responsibilities

As a visiting professor, the selected candidate’s primary responsibility would be teaching graduate courses within the IEM Program for Fall 2018 and Spring 2019. In addition, the selected candidate will serve as an academic and professional mentor to students, being available to discuss students’ career goals, and utilizing his/her professional networks to help students make contacts with potential practicum host sites. In addition, the selected candidate will contribute to the program and campus community through participation in IEM and MIIS events such as orientation, commencement, receptions, and faculty meetings.

Education

Master’s degree required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Teaching ability, as evidenced by appropriate references, student evaluations, and recommendation of peers. Personal attributes such as integrity, initiative, breadth and focus of intellectual interest, and willingness to advise and assist students and participate in Institute activities. MIIS promotes an international and multicultural environment. The ability to work in that environment is required, while international experience and second language capabilities are desirable.

Experience

Extensive experience as an international education practitioner (minimum 10 years desired), including significant professional experience managing staff and leading citizen diplomacy programs.
