School/Center OverviewDivision of the Vice Provost for University Life (VPUL) is Penn’s foremost provider of student services and educational access. VPUL partners and collaborates with diverse organizations across many dimensions including: race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, historical tradition, age, religion, disabilities, veteran status, interests, perspectives and socioeconomic backgrounds. We enhance the ability of nearly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, along with other community participants. University Life programs provide academic and career support, campus and community engagement, health and wellness programs, and much more. DutiesThis position provides programmatic oversight for the FGLI Program initiatives housed at the Greenfield Intercultural Center. The position reports to the Director of the Greenfield Intercultural Center and works in partnership with staff at the Greenfield Intercultural Center. The duties of this position are:
1) Assist in the design and implementation of initiatives, such as but not limited to, the Donated Book Library, Food Pantry, Subsidized Summer Storage Program and other initiatives related to the First-Generation Low Income program;
2) Support, and advice student organizations such as Penn First, Quest Bridge Scholars, FGLIQ and FGLI in Tech and any other related student organization.
3)Provide leadership in designing and implementing leadership retreats to support organizational goals. Assist with program/event planning and implementation;
4) Provide front line advising and general coaching to students, as well as, serve as a resource to students, making referrals when appropriate;
5) Design and maintain FGLI communication tool (e.g. newsletter to communicate FGLI initiatives across campus). Assist in maintaining social media and website. Develop flyers, brochures, and other informational materials;
6) Coordinate informational sessions, and program orientations to raise visibility of programs and services among students;
7) Collaborate with other offices and depts. to plan workshops to support academic & personal enhancement, with the goal of supporting student success;
9) Some assistance with budgetary management within an approved budget;
10) Design assessment tools to evaluate program effectiveness;
11) Provide presentations to students, staff and the Penn community and participate in campus meetings as needed;
12) Attend staff meetings and support the work at the center. Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required plus 3 to 5 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced Degree preferred. Degree in academic backgrounds in Higher Education Administration, Social Work, or Counseling preferred. The successful candidate for this position will be organized and detail-oriented, possess strong oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal and administrative skills, and should have experience advising highly aided students and student organizations in a collegiate setting. The successful candidate must also demonstrate a commitment to access and inclusion and have practical experience and academic knowledge related to the needs of highly aided students and best practices related to enhancing student success. Must be willing to work in a flexible environment. Must be available for some evening and weekend hours.
