This position requires evening and weekend responsibilities in the community. The position is in Greenwood, MS.

Job Summary

The Program Manager is responsible for assisting in the day-to-day implementation of a community-based cancer prevention project in eight (8) counties in the Mississippi Delta. This assistance includes the recruitment, training, retention and support for volunteers (Community Health Advisors); planning, presenting and implementing public cancer educational sessions, and planning and implementing partner and Network meetings. There is extensive evening and some weekend work with moderate local travel required. Communicating with the public, volunteers, strategic partners, funders, and supervisors at the base office in Greenwood, MS and at the Hattiesburg USM campus will be required.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Plans, coordinates, recruits, trains, retains, and provides logistical support and
supervision to volunteers (Community Health Advisors) and Community Network Partners (CNPs)
2. Plans, staffs, and provides logistical support and evaluation of cancer awareness special programs or events.
3. Assists the Director of the Mississippi Network for Cancer Control and Prevention in overseeing data collection as needed and generating reports to funders and Network partners
4. Assists the Director of the Mississippi Network for Cancer Control and Prevention in building and maintaining partnerships as needed.
5. Performs other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university and two years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Driver’s license required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. The position requires independent judgment in determining the best approach to accomplish assignments.

The ability to recruit, work with and retain volunteers and to present a positive image in a variety of communities

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in a social science area (social work, health, psychology, education, communication, etc.)
