The Education Lab Lecturer works in the Betty Holden Stike Education Lab under the guidance of the Education Lab Director to support the mission, vision and goals of the Stike Education Lab and of the Watson College of Education.

The Education Lab Lecturer provides crucial supervision and individualized support for Watson College of Education pre-service teacher candidates as they instruct schoolchildren in one-on-one settings. The Education Lab Lecturer provides contemporaneous feedback in reflective practice and coordinates with methods course professors, department faculty and staff. The Education Lab Lecturer teaches co-requisite lab classes for literacy and math courses and manages professional development opportunities for students, faculty and staff, including the extension Education Lab, public school partners and Virgo Preparatory Academy. The position may include face-to-face and online instruction of teacher education courses in the elementary education program.

The successful applicant will need to:
•Teach lab courses each semester
•Participate in the generation of professional development sessions for practicing and future teachers
•Support students in licensure requirements, including but not limited to edTPA processes and procedures
•Assist in ongoing program revision and development, particularly as it relates to the Education Lab, extension Education Lab and the Watson College programs which they serve
•Attend department and program meetings
•Participate in planning and implementation of field-based programs

Minimum Requirements

Masters’ degree in field relevant to Literacy, Math, and/or Teacher Education

Public school educator with a minimum of 5 years teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated talent and innovation as a classroom teacher; knowledge of and eligibility for North Carolina licensure in the appropriate areas; strong people and leadership skills; experience in higher education, particularly with teacher candidates; documented experience coaching and supervising the development of educators; creativity and proficiency with technology; strong commitment to and experience with P-12 partnership approaches; detail-focused orientation and working knowledge of current research and trends in curriculum and instructional supervision. Candidates who have mentored beginning teachers and/or pre-service teacher interns are preferred.

The Betty Holden Stike Education Laboratory is designed as a critical component of the undergraduate elementary, special education, middle grades, secondary and graduate MAT teacher preparation programs within the Watson College of Education. Pre-service teacher candidates practice the methods they are learning in their courses by teaching a child in a one-on-one setting. Future teachers are individually coached as they employ newly learned pedagogy in reading, writing and mathematics. Our intensive approach to preparing future teachers results in educators who are attuned to their learners and are reflective in their practice.

The Watson College of Education (WCE) (www.uncw.edu/ed) is a growing college with over 60 tenure-track faculty members working in undergraduate and master’s programs in the Department of Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle, Literacy and Special Education and the Department of Instructional Technology, Foundations and Secondary Education, and master’s and doctoral programs in the Department of Educational Leadership. It offers several international study programs and maintains partnerships with numerous school districts, community colleges, and colleges/universities in the region.
