The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is seeking candidates for the position of Associate Director for Patrol and Investigatory Operations. The Associate Director assists the Executive Director of Public Safety in the daily administration of DPS. This includes leading, developing and supervising a diverse and professional staff of seasoned Public Safety Officers and Supervisors. Gettysburg College seeks candidates who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
The Associate Director is primarily responsible for patrol operations and investigative functions of the Department, to include, but not limited to:
•Special Event management,
•Hiring, training, appraising and professionally developing a security staff,
•Employing community-policing strategic initiatives – including crime data collection, analysis and directed patrols,
•Incident and emergency response management in accordance with Incident Command System requirements and structures,
•Crime prevention, security awareness and Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) program management,
•Staff orientation, field training and quality assurance certification program management,
•Clery Act, Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Reporting (PA UCR), and Federal National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) compliance and oversight,
•Liaison with Local, State, and Federal law enforcement and emergency management resources,
•Quality control of incident investigations and case management,
•Rotational on-call responsibilities, and
•Other related Departmental quality improvement initiatives.
This position serves as the Director of Public Safety in the absence of the Executive Director.Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
•Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education (IHE) with at least five years of progressive law enforcement/security experience.
•At least two years in a supervisor or administrative position responsible for supervising law enforcement/security personnel in the completion of daily police/security operational tasks and assignments.
•Clear understanding and applicability of modern community-policing and key elements of effective diversity initiatives.
•Clear understanding of collecting, classifying and reporting Clery Act crimes and Uniform Crime Report (UCR) Part One and Part Two and NIBRS crime categories – must be knowledgeable of UCR and NIBRS definitions and standards.
•An ability to contribute to Gettysburg College’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
•Possess the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities necessary to maximize effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
•Knowledge of National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS).
Preferred Education and Experience:
•Master’s Degree in criminal justice, organizational management, higher education, human resources or related field.
•One to two-years’ experience in investigatory operations.
•Experience at an institution of higher education.
Certifications Required Post Hire:
•ACT 235 Certification (Lethal Weapons Training Academy) or the ability to become certified within six months after hire is required.
•Certification in the use of Automatic Electronic Defibrillators (AED), OC Spray, Tasers, batons, handcuffing, first responder, first aid or CPR preferred, however, not required at the time of employment.
•Must be certified in Clery Compliance through a nationally recognized program within three years of appointment
Position will remain open through May 24, 2019.
