Job Summary

Please Note: This is an internal recruitment open to current classified staff members of Eastern Washington University.

The Libraries and Learning Commons Administration seeks to fill a Communications Consultant 3 position. This position reports to the Dean of Libraries and Learning Commons.

This position is responsible to independently coordinate, organize, schedule and carry out informational and public relations activities and programs in the EWU Libraries and Learning Commons while ensuring conformity to university styles and quality standards. Apply knowledge of college level policies, resources, and mission. Determine appropriate methods to publicize and promote events and services. Collaborate with internal and external groups to promote the college and enhance visibility. Create and maintain the college’s digital presence. Foster collaborative working relationships with associated EWU stakeholders. Assist and consult with staff on various web projects. Maintain effective and professional relationships with colleagues in the college, across campus, and in the wider community. Research, write, edit, and publish communications on behalf of the college. Typical media include websites, digital newsletters, articles, press releases, and social media posts.

The person in this position possesses and applies communication, technical, and professional writing skills. Through continuing education and additional learning, this person stays abreast of current and evolving technologies and related trends.

Conditions of Employment

This is an internal recruitment open to current classified staff members of Eastern Washington University. Position is available due to the immediate reallocation of an existing position to the Communications Consultant 3 classification incorporating higher level duties appropriate for the classification.

Work location is JFK Library on the EWU Cheney campus.

This position will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value. Successful applicant will be required to pass a background check prior to the first date of employment.

Essential functions:
•Ability to work at a computer station for extended periods five days per week.
•Ability to type at a computer at a moderate rate of speed (i.e. 50 words per minutes).
•Ability to read and understand information in databases, websites, etc.
•Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
•Ability to communicate professionally in person, and by email and telephone.
•Proficiency in keyboarding, computer, use, email, and recordkeeping.

Must be able to perform position’s essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be available to work assigned schedule. The schedule for this position is 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This position is covered by the Washington Federation of State Employees’ Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications

•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience
•3+ years of writing/editing experience
•5+ years of experience communicating effectively and professionally with a diverse range of clients
•3+ years of online publishing experience
•3+ years conducting and managing events
•Proven project management experience
•Demonstrated ability to be a collaborative partner, as well as a thought leader and facilitator
•Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.

Preferred Qualifications

•3+ years’ experience working in and knowledge of an academic library
•Proficiency in web content creation using WordPress
•Proficiency in event scheduling software (such as 25Live or similar)
•Proficiency in event management software (such as Maestrosoft or similar)
•Experience with social media dashboard programs (such as Hootsuite or similar)
•Experience supervising others
