The Libraries and Learning Commons Administration seeks to fill a Communications Consultant 3 position. This position reports to the Dean of Libraries and Learning Commons.
This position is responsible to independently coordinate, organize, schedule and carry out informational and public relations activities and programs in the EWU Libraries and Learning Commons while ensuring conformity to university styles and quality standards. Apply knowledge of college level policies, resources, and mission. Determine appropriate methods to publicize and promote events and services. Collaborate with internal and external groups to promote the college and enhance visibility. Create and maintain the college’s digital presence. Foster collaborative working relationships with associated EWU stakeholders. Assist and consult with staff on various web projects. Maintain effective and professional relationships with colleagues in the college, across campus, and in the wider community. Research, write, edit, and publish communications on behalf of the college. Typical media include websites, digital newsletters, articles, press releases, and social media posts.
The person in this position possesses and applies communication, technical, and professional writing skills. Through continuing education and additional learning, this person stays abreast of current and evolving technologies and related trends.

This is an internal recruitment open to current classified staff members of Eastern Washington University. Position is available due to the immediate reallocation of an existing position to the Communications Consultant 3 classification incorporating higher level duties appropriate for the classification.
Work location is JFK Library on the EWU Cheney campus.
This position will be involved in the receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value. Successful applicant will be required to pass a background check prior to the first date of employment.
•Ability to work at a computer station for extended periods five days per week.
•Ability to type at a computer at a moderate rate of speed (i.e. 50 words per minutes).
•Ability to read and understand information in databases, websites, etc.
•Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
•Ability to communicate professionally in person, and by email and telephone.
•Proficiency in keyboarding, computer, use, email, and recordkeeping.
Must be able to perform position’s essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be available to work assigned schedule. The schedule for this position is 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience
•3+ years of writing/editing experience
•5+ years of experience communicating effectively and professionally with a diverse range of clients
•3+ years of online publishing experience
•3+ years conducting and managing events
•Proven project management experience
•Demonstrated ability to be a collaborative partner, as well as a thought leader and facilitator
•Demonstrated ability to apply a culturally responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the diverse needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, staff, and the public.
•3+ years’ experience working in and knowledge of an academic library
•Proficiency in web content creation using WordPress
•Proficiency in event scheduling software (such as 25Live or similar)
•Proficiency in event management software (such as Maestrosoft or similar)
•Experience with social media dashboard programs (such as Hootsuite or similar)
•Experience supervising others
•Willingness to continue training and undertake new learning opportunities applicable to duties and responsibilities
•Demonstrated ability to take initiative, exercise resourcefulness, and solve problems
•Demonstrated ability to complete multiple tasks and projects with overlapping deadlines while applying critical thinking skills, great attention to detail, and perseverance

COORDINATE, ORGANIZE, SCHEDULE AND CARRY OUT INFORMATIONAL AND PUBLIC RELATIONS ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMMING. Typical duties include:
•Plan promotional campaigns and disseminate information detailing the resources, services, and programs of the college using both digital and print communication to both internal and external audiences.
•Inform both internal and external audiences of evolving services, programs and resources provided by the college using appropriate communication tools.
•Assess impact of communication efforts through data and survey methodology; implement changes to increase communication efficacy.
•Exercise decision-making authority and independent judgment to apply protocols and determine processes for successful programming needs.
•Plan, organize, coordinate, and oversee promotions and programming activities of varying complexity.
•For fundraisers, coordinate promotional materials and event setup, mechanics, and workflows. Participate in event planning and preparation from beginning to end.
•Collaborate with both campus partners and outside/local/national organizations in generating larger public relations activities for increased college and university visibility. Oversee integration of the college into the institutional culture and events.
•Recommend and execute actions for successful promotional activities.

MANAGE ONLINE PLATFORMS (WEBSITES/SOCIAL MEDIA) AS A COMMUNICATION TOOL. Typical duties include:
•Work effectively with EWU MarCom and IT to create and maintain online social media and website presence in compliance with EWU standards and practices.
•Exercise decision-making authority and independent judgment when publishing online content.
•Lead and coordinate public relations activities within the college to assess, recommend, change, and improve the college media footprint.
•Facilitate and conduct meetings with related committees, task forces, and unit managers to exchange information about functionality and accessibility, and performance of online platforms.
•Represent the college at larger campus committees related to web presence, communication and related topics.
•Analyze and determine appropriate methods and techniques to publicize and promote departmental programs and services via web pages and social media.
•Manage various departmental websites, conduct regular maintenance of sites.
•Administer and oversee college social media sites.
•Conduct website usability studies and analyze web analytics and reporting to identify successes and challenges; design and implement improvements.
•Prepare and present materials to help others learn to update and contribute to web content.
•Engage in continuing education and training opportunities related to duties.
WRITING, EDITING, PREPARING COMMUNICATIONS FOR USE ON VARIOUS PLATFORMS. Typical duties include:
•Compile material for publication for internal and external audiences through research, interview, and collaboration with various college authorities.
•Compose and edit material/copy for various print, online and social media platforms.
•Serve as editorial and proof reading resource and participate in grant writing committees where applicable.
ADMINSTRATIVE SERVICES AND SUPPORT. Typical duties include:
•Communicate policy, news, deadlines, and other messages on behalf of administrative unit to meet college level objectives.
•Perform complex scheduling duties, (25Live, Eagle Sync), administrative support functions, assist in and coordinate office activities as needed.
•Design and update work flows and forms to improve efficiencies and patron access with focus on sustainability (online form hosting, design).
