Princeton University

The Princeton University School of Architecture invites applications for an educational design program that seeks to enrich the arts and sciences curriculum in regional high schools in Trenton, New Jersey. The School of Architecture is working in partnership with the Princeton University Preparatory Program (PUPP), an academic and cultural enrichment program that supports high-achieving, low-income high school students from local school districts, in order to implement the design program in collaboration with our high school partners. Our Architectural Design Fellow, appointed at the rank of Associate Professional Specialist, will provide design studio instruction to high school juniors as they learn technical skills, strengthen presentation styles, develop design portfolios, and navigate the college application process. The classroom/studio instruction will be supplemented by guest lectures and field trips to architecture schools and offices in Philadelphia, Princeton, and New York. The Fellow will be able to develop his/her own research project focusing on urban issues pertinent to Trenton or its surrounding area. This position will also have the opportunity for professional development through participation in courses offered by Princeton's Program in Teacher Preparation. The Princeton Architectural Design Fellow will work under the direction of Dean Monica Ponce de Leon and will help coordinate programming with the Princeton University Preparatory Program and our local high school partner. Candidates must have completed a professional program in Architecture (M.Arch). We seek applicants who have enthusiasm for their subject area/research and an interest in or experience with working with high school students. Additionally, we seek a candidate who is collaborative and flexible, possesses strong communication and planning skills, and is able to work in a changing environment. The term of appointment is one year with renewal for up to three years, contingent on satisfactory performance and continued funding. The selected candidate is expected to be in residence during the term of appointment in order to be central to the participating high schools.
