This is a fixed term position (with benefits) ending 9/1/2021.
As part of the Office of Development (OOD) and Stanford Alumni Association's (SAA) Business Technology Services team, the Business Analyst is a fixed term position that plays a key role on the ADAPT Program (Alumni and Development Applications Platform Transition) reporting to the Senior Director.

The Business Analyst bridges business needs with technical solutions to address business challenges; serves as an authority on core business applications and facilitates requirements and design activities on larger initiatives; understands business unit workflows and applies technology solutions in support of those workflows; provides support for application enhancements, application integrations, Quality Assurance, production support and change control processes.

The Business Analyst will be part of the continuous improvement effort of ADAPT processes; they will work with Business Process Owners, business, and technical staff to gather needs, and will apply their strong systems analysis and business analysis experience to analyze and build out requirements, identify gaps and drive organizational change.
Your responsibilities include:
  • Manage day-to-day operational processes; develop and implement procedures in response to changing business needs and program design.
  • Advise users requiring assistance in solving complex problems or issues regarding management and business systems.
  • Lead efforts to ensure that information systems support the organizational mission and objectives and coordinate the process of defining, investigating and solving problems related to business systems and special projects.
  • Use appropriate elicitation techniques to gather and document business, user and systems requirements. Bridges complex business problems to technology solutions. Analyzes input/output requirements, procedural flow between departments/groups, operational audits, and organizational structures and problems to improve. Translates business processes into system requirements.
  • Design complex business solutions for usability, end-user adoption and productivity improvement. Specifies functional designs and works with developers and analysts to implement.
  • Develop the UAT Test Plan and Use Case documents with focus on requirements; partners with the testing/QA team to execute the Test Plan, record and analyze the test results.
  • Maintain knowledge of project management and business analysis tools, principals, practices and procedures. Navigates through other processes related to development, testing, change management, etc.
  • Ensure a high level of client satisfaction by monitoring the delivery of ongoing information systems to the organization; establishes key metrics and continually measures and evaluates the effectiveness of the delivery.
  • Analyze data and provide data sets to users for analysis. May include development of operational and analytical reports for end users.
  • Build long-term relationships between multiple business partners to drive engagement in ADAPT strategy. Influences business partner decision making to optimize requirements prioritization.
  • Liaise with external vendors or partners in support of business systems, which may include system development, implementation and/or operations.
  • Coordinate the implementation of new or modified business systems

To be successful in the role you will bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business and five years relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of computer system capabilities, business processes, and work flow.
  • Experience with enterprise applications and understanding of database driven applications.
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle.
  • Knowledge of principles and techniques used in conducting management studies and in systems analysis.
  • Current knowledge of rapidly changing computer technology.
  • Skill in conducting interviews and facilitating group meetings.
  • Skill in developing and conducting training programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to bridge functional and technical resources by communicating effectively with individuals of varying systems expertise and business needs.
  • Strong listening, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to design and document complex business systems.
  • Proven problem solving and analytical thinking and ability to approach problems logically and systematically.

In addition, our preferred requirements include:
  • Proven experience with Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies strongly desired.
  • Proven ability in writing business requirements documents, process flows (swim lanes) for current state and future state strongly desired.
  • Proven ability in writing user stories and acceptance criteria under Agile methodology strongly desired.
  • Proven ability in writing test cases and test scenarios strongly desired.
  • Proven ability to build relationships to achieve results in a consensus driven environment strongly desired.
  • Solid negotiation, persuasion, and facilitation skills strongly desired.
  • Solid experience with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Visio) strongly desired.
  • Experience with Salesforce (SFDC) and/or Oracle desired.
  • Experience with running SQLs and data queries on relational databases (Oracle) desired.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and testing practices desired.
  • Knowledge and understanding of University operations, administration and community desired.
  • Experience with University Advancement systems desired.
