Director, Human Resources

Description:
The Director of Human Resources position is a new role within Emerson. In collaboration with HR leadership, the Director of Human Resources will help design, deliver and implement both strategic and tactical initiatives that effectively address the human resources and business needs of the College and its various departments.
The Director will oversee the day-to-day management of two HR Business Partners and will support their own client groups. The Director will be responsible for creating a team regarded as:
  • invaluable trusted advisors to department managers and leaders
  • highly knowledgeable about their departments' business and well integrated in their client departments' operation
  • objective, fair and compassionate by employees and managers alike
  • excellent in the administration of HR related policies, processes and programs
  • committed to Service Excellence
    Working collaboratively with departments, this position and the HRBP team will help managers prioritize and integrate solutions that help achieve departmental objectives in the areas of workforce development, performance management, employee relations, compensation concerns, organizational design, talent acquisition, and change management. The HRPB team will engage the resources of the broader HR organization.
    The position includes working with both unionized and non-union staff.

    Required Knowledge:
    • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in Human Resources management or related area
    • Minimum of 15 years’ experience as an HR Generalist, 10 years resolving complex employee relations issues.
    • Minimum 5 years’ supervisory experience.
    • Considerable professional human resources experience across multiple HR functional areas
    • Consulting expertise and negotiating skills in an evolving and rapid paced professional culture
    • Union and non-union experience
    • Effective application of human resources best practices, principles, concepts
    • Seamlessly managing multiple competing and shifting priorities
    • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, benefits, organizational diagnosis, employee and union relations, diversity, performance management, and federal and state respective employment laws
    • Demonstrated ability to coach, train and influence diverse groups of HR professionals, and build and sustain professional business relationships
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Thought leadership, conflict management and critical thinking skills essential, as well as ability to effectively problem solve, gather and analyze data, and make sound judgments.

    Preferred/Desirable Knowledge:
    • 5-7 years of experience in managing multiple teams or HR business functions • Workday experience • Advanced degree in human resources or related field • SPHR
