Duties & Responsibilities
The Assistant Director will:
- Establish working relationships with faculty, teaching teams, and staff through design and implementation of orientations, institutes, workshops, and other programming informed by the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- In collaboration with SLATE's Associate Director of Professional Pedagogy, implement several training programs for faculty including a two-day New Faculty Institute, faculty lunchtime teaching seminars, Teaching Week and Teaching Awards.
- Assist with the design and dissemination of instructional resources and highlight pedagogical methods appropriate to a professional school setting.
- Support the SLATE pedagogy team in faculty consultations and classroom observations.
- Provide support in the areas of course design, instructional design and classroom management customized to professional school teaching and learning.
- Stay abreast of research, trends, and innovations in teaching and learning as applied to professional pedagogy.
- Cultivate partnerships on campus to identify new needs and opportunities in professional pedagogy. Identify best practices and resources available.
- Collaborate on ongoing assessment of programs and services, analyze workshop activity, surveys, and other evidence of impact, and draw on such data for iterative improvement of SLATE services.
- Conduct curricular materials research to identify and curate existing cases/simulations/curricular materials for review and possible adoption by the faculty. Advise faculty on the effective integration of new curricular materials into their courses.
- Design and deliver pedagogical training for 100+ new Teaching Assistants (TAs) at the start of each semester. Devise methods to increase engagement in these sessions, strengthen learning opportunities, and ultimately foster improved efficacy of TAs.

- Advanced degree
- 5 years of professional experience
- Some teaching experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and emerging trends in teaching and learning.
- Experience in applying research to curricular innovations and faculty development.
Additional (Preferred) Qualifications
- Experience teaching in higher education preferred.
- Doctorate in academic discipline.
- Working knowledge of program assessment and evaluation.
- Experience implementing programs in a higher educational environment.
- Excellent organizational, analytical and program development skills.
