Program Director, Institute for Technology Law & Policy - Georgetown University Law Center

The Program Director advances the mission of the Institute for Technology Law & Policy, particularly through designing, developing and executing substantive research projects of substantial scope and complexity. S/he conducts substantive subject-matter research and develops and coordinates project-specific events. The Program Director works with the leadership team on developing and fundraising projects related to their field of expertise, manages reports and other obligations associated with relevant grants, and engages in broader strategic program planning as a senior member of the Institute's staff. Reporting directly to the Institute's Executive Director, the incumbent has additional responsibilities that include but are not limited to:

Project Management
  • Manages and provides substantive research and other support to satisfy the obligations of ongoing Institute projects.
  • Conducts substantive subject-matter research.
  • Develops, drafts, and publishes scholarship of substantial scope and complexity (such as white papers and policy memoranda).
  • Oversees and coordinates project-specific events (for example, colloquia, conferences, lectures, and discussions).

  • Develops Tech Institute-specific foundation, corporate, and government funding proposals for their work.
  • Conducts prospect research and analysis on relevant donors as well as relevant subject-matter research.
  • Develops, drafts, and edits proposals.
  • Contributes to reporting requirements for the Initiative's funded projects, keeping all exposure to sensitive information confidential.

Strategy & Network-Building
  • Identifies critical issues and public policy where the Institute could potentially have an impact on policy and be able to influence political discourse.
  • Creates strategies on appropriate actions to maximize the possibility of impact and influence.
  • Utilizes existing partnerships and public policy thought leaders and influencers.
  • Develops new collaborations with other thought leaders and potential influencers.

Institute Leadership
  • Mentors Associates, Fellows and Institute Staff, including in written work, career development, and project proposals.
  • Mentors law students and research assistants.
  • Engages with Institute leadership through monthly leadership meetings, supporting any annual Institute conferences or projects.
  • Provides guidance and support for organizational development as needed.

  • Juris Doctorate
  • 8 to 10 years of substantive analytic, research, and substantive skills related to technology policy at the local, state, and/or national levels
  • A proven track record of thought leadership
  • Exceptional interpersonal and project management skills with the ability to convey complex concepts and scholarship to a diverse range of audiences
  • Exceptional academic and public service credentials, including strong knowledge of experience in law, policy, ethics, and governance
  • Adept at working with faculty, staff, and other officials at the Law Center and the University, and with government officials, private foundations, intergovernmental organizations, and the private sector
